Low mileage Le Mans III on ebay
« on: November 04, 2015, 07:45:24 PM »
So with a Buy it now price of $15,000 and opening bid at $10,000, this should be interesting...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moto-guzzi-vintage-motorcycle-/151875410477?hash=item235c7ada2d:g:LzYAAOSwo0JWOoR0&vxp=mtr

These are wonderful Guzzi's, but $15K seems pretty lofty!

My guess is that he will get nothing until he gets more realistic...ahhh, this is one of those cases where his wife said to get rid of it and he will say "I tried honey, I really, really tried!"

Makes me wonder...can't even spell LeMans (Lamaze?) and the description is rather vague and lacking in details.

I notice that this 84 has the rubber knee pads behind the valve covers. My 83 Le Mans III does not have these. Does anyone know if these parts were factory, or added after purchase?

Btw, no bids yet...

They must have been added. They're not even mounted correctly.

Looks like a pretty clean bike in the pics, and if the mileage is real I wouldn't doubt he can get 10k for it.

Cam,

Yes, my assumption as well, as I've never seen a Le Mans III with them.  I believe they were OEM on some SP's.

I'll bet a 20 dollar bill it doesn't come close.

If that is a real Moto Guzzi Lamaze III it will be giving birth soon.

I don't know if that price is too crazy. Look at what Dave Brown is asking for 3 LMI's and II's. DB Cycles.

I agree, as well as detailing the bike to a higher standard. And the bar end mirrors, which usually make a bike look better, just don't cut it on this Le Mans.

When your trying to get, what may be a record amount for a Le Mans III, then it should be
a " no excuses"  machine.

That being said, I think it could get very close to five figures with the right attantion to the details.

Lamaze III. Isn't that a class for mothers having triplets?

Nice bike. Too bad nobody has ever gotten to enjoy it. Now it's value is due to not being ridden so it probably never will be.

Enjoyment can be different for different folks.  I bet the original owner enjoyed looking at it parked in his living room or office for 20 years.  I bet if you asked him he would say he enjoyed it a lot.  :>

The older these bikes get the less they will be ridden.

The next owner will probably own at least one other bike, probably a newer machine that will be his or her regular rider.

I would bet the next owner may put on 1000 miles per year max, so over the next decade the mileage will not climb much.

I don't think one needs to put on tons of miles to enjoy an older bike, there is enjoyment in being the custodian of it until the next owner comes along.

Riding it, even infrequently will be good for the bike and the rider.

This is a very nice looking MK III but I don't think it will get to $10K.

In 10 years $10K for this bike will be cheap.

So true, perhaps even more for the rider

With 4 days to go, still no bids. I think if he lowered the opening bid, it might attract some bidding activity, although the bikes presentation is lacking.

In 10 years $10K for this bike will be cheap.
Totally agree!

The auction for this Le Mans has about 24 hours left, and no bids...lots of watchers though.

Personally, I think it's worth between $8500. and $9500.,  given that it has no surprises.

The seller seems to have trouble spelling LeMans , at one points he spells it Lamans . Me thinks he doesn't know much about MG .

True, but at least this time, he has slightly better photo representation of the bike.

Although  I personally prefer the white  ones, this would certainly be welcome in my garage!

I mean, "Le Mans" is spelled out right there on the sidecover!   How much trouble could it be to look at the sidecover and use that in the product description?   Even if you're a bad speller or a non-English speaker, how can you not even copy the right name?
Makes me wonder if he's in the same place as the bike.

I just noticed a couple of unique characteristics on this 84 Le Mans.

The foot peg holders, which are alloy, are painted black. On my 83, these parts are unpainted, and in the naked aluminum.

Also, the seat appears to be an aftermarket, as opposed to the OEM foam seat.

The shocks and front suspension however, does appear to be the OEM parts, which at least on mine, were poor, with bad damping and weak springs.

Lastly, there is a blue sticker on the left side of the fairing shield. It does not look like a current Pa. Inspection sticker, which if it was, should be down on the fork.
