I was in a Triumph showroom (on business) and saw one up close-a lot of detail on the appearance, not sure how to feel about the pseudo-Amal throttle bodies..
But it is apparently the fastest seller the dealer has. Could our suspenders tell us lies?
I can see the appeal. It looks better than the pictures, and the lack of plastic would really grab an older fella.

I rode a '93 in Germany for two years. These are excellent motors. 3-cylinder, 100HP, liquid-cooled, 6-speed.
1995 Triumph Sprint 900 - 40K miles, excellent condition, clean title, well maintained overall by a Triumph enthusiast. Just needs a "sprag-clutch!!" I believe I am going to get it next week!!

A Guzzi friend of mine in Sacto. had a 900 Triumph triple too in the `90's? and let me ride it 1 time and yes, I really liked it. :thumb: His had spoke rims and had a very smooth ride. He also had an old Triumph 750 twin & Guzzi T-3.

That is a great deal but to be fair you do need to split the engine cases to replace the starter sprag clutch on those. Once you do that you'll have many more happy miles with it. Just keep a good battery in it and you'll never have the issue again. :bike-037:

Back in 2013, I was at Overland Expo at Mormon Lake south of Flagstaff and a guy drove up on a Green Triumph Trophy...here's a pic.
Almost looks like the twin of the one you're going to buy!!

$500.00 makes that the deal of the century! The 1st gen Hinckley triumphs are fantastic machines. It should be a 5 speed. You can get 100 hp with some tuning.
I can't believe you found that for 500 bucks. Post more pictures when you get her home.

Tom Hull is your best bet for fixing the sprag clutch.

I think the early Hinkley Triumphs had to have an engine strip to replace the starter clutch. I haven't done this job myself but I think this is the case. The archilles heal of the series?
Someone may have come up with an easier fix by now.

Update, some of the earlier bikes had a removable hatch on the crankcase. Check to see if this is the case, otherwise engine out, upside down and split the cases. Be aware.

There is a video on YouTube about this....and after watching it...I decided to purchase it. Yes, a few hours and maybe $200 in parts....(I'll replace the clutch plates also)...and she will be ready to Rock & Roll!! :thumb: :cool:

This is the 1993 Triumph Trident 900 that I rode all over Germany and Belgium and the Netherlands for two years (2004-2005), and I can attest they are great sport touring bikes. :thumb: :cool: :1:

That my friend is one hell of a deal. I still believe the Hinckley Triumphs are the best and most over engineered motorcycles Triumph ever produced. The early ones were plagued with the sprag clutch issue, but the problem was eliminated in the later models. I had a 99 Thunderbird Sport for a number of years, fast as hell, and a great handling machine. Probably should have kept it, they are becoming somewhat collectible........ ..

are you going to keep the peashooter mufflers? Trident exhausts in England make some nice mufflers. Just got a set for my D1200.

Maybe...want to see how they sound first....I kinda like the old school look on the modern Triumph! :cool: :thumb:

I like the looks of the Bobber, but its a very limited use type of bike. I've been a big Triumph fan for a long while now with 5 of my last 7 bikes being Triumphs. The 2016 Griso SE is my first ever Guzzi, and I'm loving this thing. I also had a 2003 Sprint in British racing green and it was a fine running machine. Unfortunately I only had the pleasure of riding it for several months before it was totaled in an accident. $500 on the Sprint is a great buy, even if it needs a little work. Britman, That's a beautiful looking Thunderbird, I've always liked the Bumble bee colors on the Thunderbird Sport. I also just recently sold my older 4th generation 2003 Thunderbird, it was a fun ride and that bike drew a lot of interest from others. I just didn't ride it enough with a couple of other bikes in the garage. Those older Triumph triples were basically bullet proof, with only a couple of easily fixable weaknesses. They're pretty easy to work on too.

Its a 76 KZ900, I purchased it in pieces for $500. The owner took it apart and couldn't put it back together, so he put it up for sales on Craigslist. It was my summer project in 2011.

Yes, I will have to do a sprag-clutch, battery, carb-rebuild kit, clutch plates, etc. but clearly the best $500 I ever spent!!

When I was working at a Triumph shop a mint BRG Trophy 900 got traded in. I hesitated a bit and it sold in 2 days. I still kick myself as it was a great machine, I thought.

...and here is it a few months later, slightly modified for two-up sport touring. It was a good bike! Bought it for 2500 Euros...rode it for 2 years...sold it for 2500 Euros.
