Roadgear makes MC-specific socks in Merino wool...

http://roadgear.com/performance-socks-c-22_79.html

I got this offer from Roadgear a few days ago.

Use code "WS4A1" for a 40% savings on socks.
Limit of 3 pair.  The code expires on Saturday March 14th.

They mentioned that the code is good for my "riding buddies".
Be my buddy and enjoy the savings!!!

I'm with Lannis. I have a drawer full of wool socks.  They just don't seem to wear out.

I wore the Uniform Support socks yesterday all day long. It wasn't a particularly active day, though I did get out for a bit on the bike, and did some walking and a few other activities. The bottom line is the socks are OK, but that's it. They're not bad, but they're not great, either. They did slide down my calves a little, which is something I really don't care for; especially in a new pair of socks. They're not in the same league as the Fatigue Fighters that I like so much. I won't be buying a second pair.

this is educational.  I've reverted to using plain white cotton socks over the years.  Even wearing white socks (and jeans during my last year on the job).

I always thought that wool was for cold climates.  Now, I am going to look for some wool socks and give it a try.

In the last little men's store in our small town, that catered to the older gents, you could buy white cotton, non-elasticized "Railroad Brand" socks.

The package had a picture of a section gang working on the track, and their motto was "A Month's Wear in Every Pair".

I'll tell you, I sure do expect more than a month's wear out of a pair of my merino or SmartWool socks!

They got possums?

Not as ugly as the North American type, worse pest though.  Introduced from Australia.  Lots of schemes for making some use of them.  I first encountered them, back when we had a cat, in cans of pet food.  The cat would eat it, but didn't seem all that crazy about it.  Also made into hats, blankets, etc., but not usually at very attractive prices.  It's supposed to be nice quality fur but I am skeptical that it would be an improvement on plain merino wool, which has to be pretty close to the ideal material for socks and stuff of that nature.

I've purchased several pairs of SOKz from Mark@Moto-Kafe over on ADVRider.  Three different pairs for various weather and so far I really love them.  I've tried the coconut one, klim, and a few others.  Contacting Mark directly results in a nice savings  :+1

I have no first-hand experience with these, but a member on the SV forum swears by these Canadian Army Gore-Tex socks:
