Maybe you can modify a generic brace https://www.denniskirk.com/search/Fork+brace.q

It's in South Carolina, AJ.

Is there really a way to tell (by external examination) if the cylinders have been replated??

Replaced, yes. Replated, no. That's where the "magnet test" comes into play.

General Discussion / Who Makes Custom Fork Braces?
« Last post by Dirk_S on Today at 08:43:05 PM »
Does anyone have recommendations to a company or chap who’ll make a custom fork brace for me?

I *thought* this Tarozzi fork stabilizer was going to work on the NTX forks installed in the V7, but the brace didn’t clear the 21” tire. I reached out to Fast from the Past, the US Tarozzi supplier (or one of at least), and they were pretty short with their responses. Apparently no fork braces to meet the specs needed that have any higher of an arch in the middle. A couple emails to other brace providers yielded similarly helpful responses.

Where is this Ambo located? Maybe someone who knows Loops and  what to look for can look at it for you?

Perhaps you are looking for something that is not really there?  Guzzi are not long throw, they aren't short throw, they are a bit in the middle.  If you want a Guzzi to behave like a HD, you won't be happy.  Just as if you want a Guzzi to act like a Ducati.  Guzzi love to run from 3/4 thousand to red line, they don't do well around 2K.  Yes, they will do it, but its not what they are designed to do.

Thanks, Charlie. You may be right...

Does this give you (or anyone) enough confidence to move ahead?

About documentation of the work, the previous owner says:

"No paperwork. Bought them [850 cylinders] from a Guzzi guy in Maine online. He said they came off his running good 850T. He just wanted 1000cc kit. Valves, guides were bought new from MG Cycle. Valve job and guide installation was done at a local machine shop."

That doesn't tell me anything about whether the chrome plating of the donor cylinders was addressed...

Sure doesn't instill confidence in me. Sounds like they just swapped out obviously bad chrome cylinders for chrome cylinders that might not have been flaking yet. Lateral move, nothing gained. At least the heads were rebuilt.

It is like a GS shelter, BMW humane society for wayward motorcycles.

This is correct, those 'special' hospitals are all over the country.

I do willingly admit, that when you are at 71 degrees North, the temperature has not been above 5 degrees C for 8 days and your home is 18,000 km away, reaching out to the starter on a BMW R1200 GS does give you more confidence than a Moto Guzzi.
But I went back the following year on the Norge and it all went very well.
However the PERCEIVED superior reliability of the GS is a very welcome thing.

While my GS have proven reliable, they are not bulletproof and have some shortcomings. Be that as it may I love the fit, feel, performance and handling of the Hexheads it was like they were built for me. The 1st time ever rode a R1200GS was after I bought it and got it home. Threw a leg over and it felt like a well broken in pair of work boots.
