The main thing that singles Canberra out, apart from the large number of scroll beetles employed by the federal bureaucracy, is that it is stinking hot in summer and perishingly cold in winter!

I'm curious Pete, what passes for "perishingly cold" down there?

-8*C on some August mornings but it never stays that cold.

Most of our rain comes in spring and autumn, our summers are hot and dry and our winters are cold and dry. Bungendore is also on top of the Great Dividing Range at about 800 meters altitude, not a lot to those of you who live in younger continents but pretty high for Oz. In winter Australia tends to get big high pressure areas that settle over the middle of the country which leads to long clear, still periods. Where we are this means crystal clear days and nights and in winter the temperature plummets as soon as the sun goes down and by four in the morning it can be -4*C or slightly lower and then, oddly, as soon as the sun comes up the temperature will plunge another two or three degrees!

The thing is the sun is strong and because it's so clear as it gets higher in the sky, just as the temperature plunges as it goes below the horizon it will rise rapidly in the morning. By 10.00AM it will usually be above freezing and by 3.00PM it will be in the high teens and really quite pleasant! Then the sun goes down and the cycle repeats. It can do this for weeks on end!

Throughout the year on clear days when the wind isn't blowing the daily temperature swing is around 20*C, more in high summer. It's a very harsh and very dry climate.

Unfortunately it started to rain after I snapped this photo and couldn't get to where I wanted to go for the next photo.

That's in NY NY?

How is riding in the big city?  When I was younger, I felt safer on a bike than in a car in city traffic.  Just seemed like I was more aware of my surroundings and was much more nimble.

Now that I'm old and creaky, the reverse is definitely true.

No, the photo was taken in Florida.

NY city riding is really slow now that most roads have been significantly reduced due to bicycle lanes, aggressive NYPD, red light cameras, cell phone brain dead texting pedestrians and huge volume of tourists almost everywhere.

I definitely feel safer on a bike than in a car in SoCal traffic. I'm a small agile target with the availability of being between lanes to keep from getting hit from behind.

You're more agile than I am.  My arthritis has hit my neck and lower back, limiting range of motion, so looking around is a bit of hit-and-miss.  I need that "blind spot warning" technology on the bikes now.  :)

I have pretty bad arthritis in my neck. Drives me nuts, even causes dizzyness when I look up. Maybe this would help. I see the torture queens once a year. Stess test on a treadmill.

When I was at the marina, I couldn't find a ship, plenty of boats:

I did manage to find a ship that I could get close enough to. Hope this will do:

For the new tag, an easy one. A statue commemorating someone or group:

This is a memorial to the Asian fishermen of San Pedro Ca.

Seems OK to me.  It's two wheels.     You'll just have to book it in to the mechanics to have the motor swiveled 90 degrees.

I'm jealous of the warm weather.  Things are a bit chilly here lately with that nasty cold rain passing through occasionally.

Well, as posted above with a little more info:

"At the south end of Palafox Street is Palafox Pier and Plaza de Luna, a waterfront park overlooking Pensacola Bay. Its centerpiece is a bronze statue of Don Tristán de Luna y Arellano, the Spanish explorer who led the effort to establish America’s first settlement in what is now Pensacola in 1559."

The tag is old school business. It doesn't have to be a fish monger or brick supplier.

Doing test runs on the Norton, the fish house is just a mile from my house so the walk back to the garage wouldn't be too bad if something went south. But it didn't.

My favorite hardware store - established the same year as me    They've got lots of people to help you and give advice.  Everything from funky fasteners and Starrett tools to a cable shop to get your logging high leads.  They've been expanding even with the big-box stores.

Maybe not old enough so here is another place that I've been going to since I was a kid.  Toyland for all ages.

New tag - a manufacturer.  SilFab Solar maker of solar panels.  https://silfabsolar.com/

Silfab is across the street from our defunct manufacturer of paper.  These are digesters IIRC.

Happy T-day!

MZs allowed as long as it has two wheels.  :)   Sadly, my MZed is up on the stand sleeping until spring. I keep the Jackal ready in the winter months just in case the weather gets "reasonable".

I'm kinda pushing the edges here as they make or put together a product.  Man not qualify as manufacturing so I will move on to another source down the road, but it will be a boring shot as it's just a building with no name.  There is a GE wind turbine manufacturer here but all you can see is a parking lot and I'm reluctant to snap photo's in front of the place. The blades are not made here just the generator part which is quite large.

Very old house. Yep, got one. This dates from, I think, early 1800s. Was lived in up until about 5 years ago. Just up the street from me in Mt Morris, PA.

Had a break in the cold rain here. Just long enough to drag the poor Jackal out and ride around town.

New tag is bank. Or, as in this case, repurposed bank building.

While I’m here, here’s a picture of the Jackal tail lights. Pretty clear which one is LEDs.

Cool old house - wow!

Forgot that it was a house and took a photo tonight of an old building - a (repurposed) company store/territorial courthouse/jail built 1858.  Unfortunately it is not a bank.  It is the oldest masonry building in Washington state and was originally 2 stories but the tidelands were filled in around it up to the second floor.
