PIAGGIO GROUP'S 2022 SALES WERE “BEST RESULTS EVER”
+25.1% Surplus and a "Net Profit up 41.4%"
The parent company to Vespa, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, and more has 2022 annual sales figures to tout – and the Piaggio Group is celebrating a surplus of success. The Italian motor vehicle manufacturer “closed 2022 with its best results ever, setting new records for all indicators, including net sales of more than €2 billion EU and net profit up 41.4% to €84.9 million EU.”
625,000 vehicles in total were shipped worldwide for 2022 – a figure up by 16.7% compared to the 536,000 units delivered in 2021. The biggest contribution to these sales was Piaggio’s scooter category, with a stunning +30% generated by Piaggio’s offerings (including contributions from Vespa and Aprilia). Following closely behind was Piaggio’s motorcycle sector, which showed off a +19.7% increase, with both Aprilia and Moto Guzzi celebrating their “best results ever” (+30% and +15%, respectively).
Aprilia is also enjoying proven success in Moto GP and has established a second Satellite Team for 2023.

Unless i misunderstood, there was a comment in the “lawyers are wasting our time with copyright infringement” thread that Moto Guzzi sales were suffering, and the company’s time would be better spent elsewhere. Needless to say, I expected this news.

It would be cool if we could get a breakdown by major markets, ie EU, North America, the giant Island continent and its offspring Nz.

More sales is better, but I wish Guzzi was doing better in relation to Aprilia (Aprilia's sales increase was double Guzzi's). I'm always fearful that Piaggio will "turn off" Guzzi, and let them fade away.

I wish Guzzi was doing even better too but considering Guzzi was down to selling basically 2 products (V85 and 850 classics) the increase was healthy. 2023 figures will include V100's and 2024 should add the new Stelvio.

I think it’s a double edged sword.
A good deal of the appeal with Guzzi is their comparative rarity, although that brings with it some unwanted issues.

We need more data. Just because Aprila's sales increased percentage wise more doesn't mean that Aprila's sales are more that MG. It is easier to increase a smaller number. To have percentages be meaningful you need to know the base numbers. For example if eyelash cancers increased by 200% it helps to know that there was 1 case last year and 3 cases this year.

From these numbers you can estimate that MG has about twice the sales of Aprila, so in raw numbers the increase in profits for MG was about the same as the increase in profits from Aprila.

In North America, I wouldn't be surprised if that is fairly close to the fact.
I have been riding Guzzi for 24 years, and look at about every motorcycle I see, and I see about more Moto Guzzi than Aprilia. And I'm leaving out Guzzi specific gatherings. I have little doubt that in NA, Guzzi out sells Aprilia by a fair margin.

I see newer Moto Guzzi V7s and Aprilia Tuareg 660s just about anywhere I go in the USA that has motorcycles more diverse than American V-Twins. That Tuareg 660 seems to be an especially hot item, they're all over in the mountains.

Every time sales bump up from the year prior they release something like this, but oddly enough when annual sales decrease they release nothing. Guzzi sales in reality have been bouncing along sometimes rising, sometimes falling at about the same level for years. As a result the PR blurb is meaningless, except maybe for the statement that it was Guzzi’s “best year ever” which in the context of Guzzis sales under Piaggio ownership implies something over 10,000 bikes sold in 2022. Unless of course “best year ever” is defined as biggest year-to-year increase versus highest sales volume.
It was anyway not really Guzzi’s best sales volume year ever as Guzzi sold several times that number annually at its peak, many years ago.
I’m sure glad I don’t have to write and later explain stuff like this Piaggio BS to make a living. One would have to take a shower when getting home from work.
I think the V85TT and V100 will in combination sell OK in 2023, which is what matters more given a new model. If only they’d eliminate the dealer only service reminder reset they might sell a few more to people who don’t like a permanent wrench icon on their instrument panel.

The problem with having only percentages of increase means we have no idea how significant the numbers are to compare them. If Aprilia sales were only half of Guzzi sales the prior year it's a very different comparison than if they were equal or Aprilia was already higher etc.

The V7 platform has been a underground hit for years, and the v85 hit the bullseye and brought a lot of people to the company. The V100 looks set to do the same. Not surprising the company is doing well. The big issue with the "dealer only" service light is the real downfall. Lack of company support keeping the dealer network, tiny, and having only a few dealers at least in the US that are good. Im lucky that I live "only" 2 hours from one of the best in the country, but whos going to buy a new one if they are 3-4-500 miles from a dealer they can trust?

I think the dealer only reset sucks too, but a deal killer??? The Breva 1100 has a wrench Icon like the newer bikes, but the customer can re-set it, however, I don't bother! I'm just going to have to go through the motions of re-setting 6250 miles later anyway. I don't even see anymore. I realize not everyone is like me, and it will bug some folks, but if it causes them to deny a purchase, they have bigger issues than what bike to buy. But I do hope Guzzi drops the dealer only re-set, but look how long it took them to give in on self canceling turn signals!
