Smith goes down, lots of red flags w/5 laps to go, Mees clinches the championship w/the domination of Indian team.

Yep . They are calling this a short track , but is just a skosh less than a 1/2 mile , so it will race like one .

was this the first win all season for the old XR?  Will it be the last?

Yes , first win , although is Sammy hadn't crashed at Atlanta (?) on his XR he probably would have won . Funny how we call the XR obsolete , when we watched Mees win at OKC last year riding one , and very convincingly at that . If tuners could get them to last a season W/O replacing very expensive crankshafts there would still be several XR's racing , especially on shorter tracks . I'll bet that Mees could still win races on one .

Well the Harleys weren't a factor (faster than last year but still slowwww) but unlike last year Indian didn't steal the show either.  Although Mess did win on an Indian he was being  seriously challenged by a Yamaha and a Kawasaki came in third.
What is with the Indian breaking in half during qualifying.  That's a little embarrassing to say the least.  Never seen anything like that before.

I must have missed what you saw.  Which Indian?

The Kawasaki of Stevie Bonsey fractured a swingarm leaving the wheel (with the remains of the swingarm still attached) rolling along while Stevie came to a pretty quick (and low) stop.  This year's jump was bigger than last year, and nearly all the bikes had rear suspensions that were bottoming out.

Daniel,  the track did look a little bit bigger than last year.  quite a bit more competitive too.

Are sponsoring a bike this year?
