driveshaft collar on V7 1 special
« on: February 03, 2018, 07:57:51 PM »
I removed the bevel box in order to grease the splines and those on the driveshaft. A 40mm long collar, with internal splines joins these two, and inside it is a disc that rests against a circlip.
I didn't note which way round the collar goes.
It would seem logical for the disc to be on the side of the collar that faces forward (toward the front of the bike).

Which is the correct way ?

I can't remember offhand. Doesn't the parts diagram tell you?

What i have is  a PDF Workshop manual: WORKSHOP MANUAL CHASSIS AND ELECTRICS 2012-13 V7 PART 1 ( The 3rd of the pdf files I downloaded -3841 kb)
At CHAR 28 it shows the dismantled rear drive and the sleeve (collar) is there. there are 2 components between the sleeve and the splines of the diff but I don't know whether this is a depiction of the circlip and disc. If they are , am I to assume that because they are shown on the RHS of the collar, that they go in the back (nearest to the diff).

The following pdf file at p155 shows a dissassembly operaion for the final drive but says only "slide off the sleeve"
At p 171 there is a reassembly operation but no mention is made of the way the sleeve should be turned (or facing).

I can't give you the link to the site where i got the download (so that we are all on the same page). I got the info from Mal several years ago.

At this link :http://www.guzzitek.org/gb/ma_us_uk/750/V7Classic_022009_Atelier(GB).pdf
at CHAS 108 the disassembly is shown and its the same picture as on my Pdf but this version does not show the diagrammatic display (exploded) of the drive that I have on my pdf.

If you want to see the display how do i get it posted (currently a  WORD doc and also in pdf form)

If you give me your email, Pete, then I'll send the Word doc with the parts shown. thanks.

Try replacing the fat with the ampersand and deleting the spaces either side...

Pete says that the disc sits on the UPSTREAM (engine) side of the circlip.

So when you remove the sleeve to make sure that there's plenty of grease on the internal splines, might be a good idea to
mark it so you know the correct way for it to go back.

Just sayin

I wrote a guide on lubing the driveshaft on the earlier V7.  Although it's not "on point" to this discussion, it might help someone else.
