Griso - what's this rubber cap?
« on: May 24, 2017, 02:16:15 PM »
I stopped in traffic today, and the guy behind me beeped and said "something fell off your bike mate". I picked it up and put it in my pocket. It is a soft rubber cap - looks like it would fit over a master cylinder. It has a circular hole in the middle with a cap on a long flexible tab. It is marked "amtech" in white lettering on one side.

Should I recognise this part?

A search for 'Amtech' leads to a bunch of companies, none of which seem to have any significant connection to the motor vehicle industry. It's always possible the guy saw the thing pop up from your tire and thought it had fallen off the bike...

OK. This is encouraging. Google didn't help me either. I will photograph it later.

Blimey. That sounds like it could be serious. How much will you charge to refit it for me and prevent the universe from imploding?  :thumb:

Looks like a cap off of a Lock
a search of amtech   not conclusive
Maybe you just ran over it and kicked it up making it appear it came from your bike
however a search of amtech lock  ( see below)

We have a winner.

it's the bottom bumper for a padlock, with the waterproof key hole.

Idiot. I ran across three lanes of traffic to retrieve that, after I was told it fell off the bike!

The guy just wanted to see you dodge traffic.  He probably had a camera on you hoping to get something to post on the innerneck.

Yes. To be fair, I think he really was trying to help. Which isn't an altogether bad thing in notorious inner city bandit country.
