"The Great Race" Buffalo NY to Halifax Nova Scotia. Over 150 entrants. Got these (and more) at the Owls Head Transportation Museum, Owls Head Maine. One of the highlights was this 1918 American Lafrance piloted by a team from Finland.

One for JJ.  A yellow Centauro parked across from the factory in Mandello.  It has a well made leather tank cover - leather jacket for a fuel tank???

Thanks SED!! :thumb:  That yellow tank bra is made by the French company, BAGSTER,  and I had a green one on my '93 Triumph Trident 900 when I lived in Aachen, Germany 2004-2005. They worked quite well!

Not to bounce this thread too high, but:
An acquaintance (amateur aerobatic pilot), added tip tanks to his CAP10B, for reasons we can all share.
Has it been done b4? How much tip weight dare you put on a wooden spar? (When not aerobatting).  R3~

I've not seen it done before on a Cap10. I'll bet a dollar it isn't a good idea. Wood is less likely to fail than aluminum.. but still..

There was an Emraude based at Mojave that had tip tanks but the pilot only used the aircraft for cross country, no aerobatics. I think they were 5 gal ea..

Tip fuel tanks are one (good??) way to add fuel to the aircraft because the weight of the fuel does not contribute to the bending moments of the wing....but there are all kinds of things that can get out of hand if the aircraft isn't designed for tips. Moments of inertia of the fuel for one, spin recovery could be greatly compromised and many other things have to be sorted as well like an airworthy way to use/transfer fuel. ugh!

Quite complicated

I suggest that this Cap10 owner is treading in unknown territory ....ouch!
