"The black plastic instrument shroud is missing.  This is so rare I may have to resort to having a 3D copy made."

I have an extra one or two of those, but I'm not quite willing to sell them, but if you need one to make a copy let me know and I can send it to you.

Because I ride my bike, I removed the front fender and installed V7 Sport fender. A couple of years ago, a pair of NOS fenders showed up on eBay from one seller. From memory, they sold for quite a bit of money.

Thanks for the kind offer!  If you ever decide to sell one, I am your man!  :)   I know next to nothing about 3d printed parts, but I have a feeling that the shroud would be difficult to produce and not be robust enough.  I could be completely wrong though.

I received the parts and they are excellent!   Footpeg bracket and taillight (and turn signals) scratched off the list.

I am back to work on the 1000S after a winter hiatus.

This bike belonged to Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse until his death.  I thought I would pass a couple of photos of the 1000S while Mark owned it.

Mark perched on the bike.

This is an on board shot while being ridden by Mark.

I always like to finish the wheels first.  Having the wheels ready to mount feels like a big step in the right direction.

Although the wheels were very crusty I was very impressed with the condition of the rims.  There were no hamfisted tire changes in their past.  The wheels were also very true and the spokes were consistently tightened.

New rubber, bearings, quite a few hours of cleaning of the wheel components, and a good polish of the spokes and rims resulted in this.

Looking good, Dave. :thumb:

What's the plan with the seat? Get a whole new cover made? If that one gets tossed, could I get you to toss it my way?

One of the disappointments is the fairly large missing piece of vinyl of the seat cover.   I haven't been able to find a suitable cover for it so I will patch it up as good as possible and keep it with the bike.

The Staintune exhaust has it's share of character marks also.  The bike was low sided at one time which must have been at a fairly low speed.   I had entertained the idea of a completely new Lafranconi setup, but after polishing up the old Stantune I have decided to put it back on the bike with its warts.  The flaws on the seat will go right along with the exhaust.

Seems like there are two alternatives for the seat. Have an upholsterer replace the damaged panel, or reproduce the whole thing. There's a place in England selling replacement covers that will make one. They don't currently offer the 1000S cover - never even heard of the 1000S - but after I described it to them, they said they could do it. Same price as the others - something like 50 GBP.

Or perhaps have a nice leather cover made.

Staintunes don't come cheap! Even Keihan, after exchange rate and shipping, though cheaper, are still pretty expensive. There are guys who repair dents in musical instruments which got me thinking. There must be a way to fix dents in headersand I've got ideas. Mufflers would be more tricky - like cutting out the bad section and repair or replace. Considering how expensive these things are it'd probably be practical repairing them.

I am curious who you contacted regarding the seat cover?  Thanks for checking this out!

I watched a couple of vinyl repair videos on YouTube this morning.  The repairs look good,  I just don't think it would hold up very well as that is an area of the seat that will see a lot of use.

Although the Staintunes have a few bumps and bruises they are still quite presentable in my opinion.  I will be running them as is.  That is after a good clean and polish session.

Any label on the seat that might give a clue as to who made it? In the Morini world, seats were made by Nisa and they still supply new covers in the original style.

Charlie,  thanks for the idea.  I looked the seat over pretty thoroughly but did not see a maker's name anywhere.

This is the message I got from Brian (dahdah-dit - Ebay seller in the UK). He said he could make one from an old used cover (I don't have one), so I told him it was essentially a V7Sport cover with the front end like the LM3. I'm making a custom pan and foam for mine and need a cover.

Here's his reply.

OK, thanks for the info . We can modify a V7 sport cover to your requirements at no extra cost to you and I could have it back for resale if when you have tried it on the seat , you find it isn't suitable and it is still in good condition of course !!.
Regards Brian

If you have trouble locating him on ebay, get in touch and I'll get it for you.

Bike is stripped for cleaning and inspection.  Since the pictures I have pulled off the clutch/trans housing to inspect the clutch, and check for signs of oil leaks.

I received my u-joint back from John Chicoine.  He does great work for a reasonable price, and excellent turnaround time.

The clutch plates have very little wear at 7.7 mm thickness, which is consistent with the bike's mileage of 15,000 miles,  but were oil soaked.  The oil was coming from the transmission side, possibly migrating in from the push-rod.  The engine side of the flywheel was bone dry and there is no sign of any oil leaks on the engine side of things.

I had just about given up finding a correct headlight for the bike.  Here are a couple pics of a correct light.

One evening when searching eBay instead of all the usual search terms I was using such as, Guzzi headlight, and variations I searched on CEV 209 which is the headlight lens.  I almost fell off my chair when a complete CEV 209 headlight assembly popped up from a European seller.  I couldn't hit the Buy It Now fast enough.  The price was reasonable as I would have been prepared to pay at least twice as much or even 3 times.   It is a correct unit in all regards except the trim ring is painted instead of chrome, and the shell is flat black instead of gloss black.  Both "issues" are an easy fix.

The seller also had an additional NOS CEV 209 light and a trim ring.  I also bought them as well and will send this ring out for chrome just in case it gets lost at the bottom of a chrome tank I will still have another.

This was a HUGE win for this bike.  I am stoked!

As pretty as the motor is going to get.  I spent the day scrubbing it.  Looks good, but not pristine.  It will go right along with the "rejuvenation" concept.

It didn't look that bad in the photos, so it seems odd tearing it all down with as few miles as it has on it.

But I guess photos do lie cause it's looking much better now.

When adjusting the valve lash I was happy to see that no ham fisted gorillas had been in there before.   :thumb:

Also I am forever grateful to the individual that saw fit to add head guards.   When the bike went down on it's left side the guard performed it's sacrificial work!

I had a spare head guard that was painted black.  I put it in stripper for a couple of hours (that paint was tough) and then gave it a good polish.

New clutch going in.  The old clutch exhibited very little wear but the friction plates were oil soaked so I thought it was best to replace.

The stuff that dreams are made of!  The headlight was delivered today.  It came from Greece.  Extra points if you know the movie this famous line is from.

The stuff that dreams are made of!  The headlight was delivered today.  It came from Greece.  Extra points if you know the movie this famous line is from.

Just saw it today - Maltese Falcon.  The line is a paraphrase from Shakespeare - Act IV, The Tempest
