Title: What do you think of this LeMans MK1 on UK ebay?
Post by: Steph on April 06, 2017, 04:36:42 PM
Could this clean-up nicely without a complete rebuilt or not?
I like patina but not rust...
Starting bid at the equivalent of $6800

Starting price seems high. I would want to ride it first before spending money and get an idea what has been done to it. Question marks are clutch, cam chain, piston slap??, tranny gears. Does it shift smoothly. And not pop out of gear??
Might be a fair price if its been maintained and it sold at the starting bid.

Pete

Even in  this state, this is still quite a bike.  You would think that even a superficial cosmetic restoration of this bike would take a few thousand so you are probably looking at $10K without touching the engine.  For me, a mechanically challenged person, I would have to pass and keep looking for one in better shape at around the $10K mark. Coming from a person who has been looking for a Le Mans at a reasonable price for some time that might be dreaming at this point.  It seems highly likely that the prices for genuine Mk 1s could be about ready to skyrocket.  Check out the prices of Ducati 750SS models and you see that these Le Mans are becoming relative bargains???

Just got a reply from the seller. Not what I was hoping to hear: It's been parked since '93, exhaust is 'loud' , The forks are pitted...

Waking-up a bike after 24 years would bring on a few internal issues needing sorting out I reckon

It appears to me to be basically *there.* Extra points for that. That said.. it would be a serious labor of love and no small amount of money to do it correctly. Just MHO.

I see the bidding is up to $8200 US now and there is two days to go.  I see this as bad news for enthusiasts and good news for collectors!

Best line of the ad....Embarrassingly Poor Condition but Largely Original...Running but needs TLC

Chuck is right...plan on spending "more than a couple hundred bucks" to get this sorted / road-worthy again.  :undecided:

A very cool and collectible Guzzi, however! :thumb:

Now that I've looked at the photos I have to say I'm surprised the bodywork paint looks as good as it does. It's actually pretty nice. As a big fan of original paint stuff I like it, even though I never cared for that color.

it is pretty complete, all the hard to find parts are still there.
to get it riding shouldnt be too hard or expensive, basically maintenance, change all the oil seals and most of the rubber parts.
after 37.000 miles engine internals will just be run in.
my le mans had been standing for 20 years, and it just took basic maintenance to get it running again.
getting it restored is another matter that might be expensive.

if you really want one, dont wait too long
they are rare most are now owned by collectors, and prices are going up.
in a couple of years you might be wondering why you didnt buy one when they were affordable.
