I have bought a new v7 Special but love the headlight on the V7 stone. Has anyone had any experience fitting one? I assume it would be straight forward but hate to think I bought the light and it would not work.
Any comments?

If nobody’s done it yet, your next step is to compare wiring parts. AF1’s web store has all the parts diagrams:

I see the fuse box is the same between the two, so that’s a plus. Looks like the main wiring harness is different, though. You can take it from there.

I recall someone asking in the V7 FB group which isn't saying much because many of the questions are so bottom feeding basic it's not funny.
That said the same person asked multiple times, never got the needed answer, and then listed the thing for sale in the group (presumably because they couldn't figure it out).

I know 4 sure the hi-lo beam switch is different. I was sent the wrong one under warranty twice ! No DRL on the special , they use low beam . Harness connector is different too . Just my $.02

yes you can do it, it's just a matter of matching up the wires to the lamps
high beam wire to high beam filament
Low beam wire to low beam filament
etc, etc,

Isn't it a little more complicated though?
I mean aren't we talking about LED vs incandescent? And does the LED unit have an additional circuit (the eagle shaped running light)?
Or am I thinking about a different light combo?
Edit - I guess the Special is an LED too, it just looks different. But I wonder what the heck the wiring differences are that this comes up?

You are correct. There's extra wiring for the DRL (eagle), as well as the handlebar cluster having a 3 way switch - DRL, LOW ,HIGH

I’m pretty sure it’s possible .you “should” consider swapping the dimmer switch too . As it has 3 functions, DRL , low beam & high beam . The special dimmer only has low & high beam . Also be careful so as not to let the smoke out of the wires , it’s quite fiddly to reinstall it :shocked:

Yes, you would have to take care of the running light but I presume that's what you like about the Stone light so adding an extra switch shouldn't[t be a big deal

Because tangents are cool, for what it’s worth, I love the cheap LED headlight bulb that I bought off Amazon to replace my halogen. For less than $20, I have a lo and hi beam that are not only brighter than the halogens, but also allows more wiggle room auxiliary electronics and less drawl on the battery.

I don't ride at night, but when I look at my bike idling with the LED spots turned on the OEM headlight definitely looks yellow and dim.

All good points, but I'd probably be more motivated to replace the entire headlight bucket and light assembly for a better built/quality unit and whether it is LED or incandescent doesn't really matter to me.
It's pretty rare I'm out on a bike after dark...and if I had to pick I would probably take the RK with all those lights up front. But light output on our V7s isn't an issue.
Nor is charging capacity.... we don't run electrics anymore (pretty rare we ride em when it's that cold, and if it IS that cold - see RK with barn door and soft lowers and plenty of excess electric capacity if we wanted).
Yup, I totally get why some might want to change these things.... I just have about zero motivation for my uses.
Kinda like how some people probably can't understand that I'm happy with the OEM sized 32's on the Wrangler... I just don't need 33's, 35's, or 37's. They wouldn't do anything better that I do with it. :thumb:

I have a V7 Stone and agree with Kev M on that point, other than the very unique look of the V7 Stone headlight, I have a hard time imagining why someone would want to spend time and money swapping to it. It is better than most incandescent headlights, but still not something I'd consider suitable for regular night riding.
Personally I've had my eye on the J.W. Speaker/Motodemic Adaptive LED headlight setup. I have run it on other bikes and it's the best lighting setup I've ever encountered without having additional aux lights mounted. For the V7 III it requires different headlight brackets which makes it extra costly on top of already being a big $$$ setup. I have been waiting on confirmation of it the same setup fits the V7 e5 otherwise I'd have purchased it already.

Anyone can look at any Guzzi schematic and tell which wire causes the lamps to operate, its just a simple matter of matching them up
