I would like to  install a LED bulb in my SP1000NT and was wondering  what would fit in the headlight bucket. Any recommendations from folks who have done it would be appreciated. Cheers

Haven't used one yet, but I've heard they can generate quite a bit of heat at the base (some have cooling fans or heat sinks), so I think going for a cheap option could be a bad idea here (perhaps a bad one could even melt some insulation in there? Most cars do not have as many cables directly behind the bulb).

Haven't tried this one yet, but plan to: http://stores.advmonster.com/native-h4/

I have these in my Convert (for the last 11 months) and Morini (for 6 months). "Heat at the base" is non-issue - it doesn't even get as warm as an H4. Neither the reflector or lens gets anything above warm as well.

If your SP has the original reflector assy., then it might use a bulb with a P45T base vs. the more common P43T base (like both of the bulbs above). In that case, you'd need an adapter ring:

I needed to use one when fitting the LED bulb to the reflector in the Morini.

I am using one of the ones from Amazon Charlie mentioned in my Mille which has a late model large headlight, 200mm I think, works well so far. I installed it and rode it several times, short daytime trips only, at some point I noticed it was no longer working, removed it and there were sort of burn marks around one of the two LEDs mounted to the board. I had actually ordered one for my Convert as well so had a spare and changed it, this one seems fine. I don't have many miles on it yet, but seems ok. The light pattern is not as well defined as I would like, I don't ride a lot at night if I did I might want something different. The big deal for me is the lack of room behind the bulb, some of the available options are excluded because of that. There is a great thread on ADVrider about led H4s, well worth reading as research.
