Bowl (bowel?), brown, spoon, onion.

Don't think I've had this since I was in college. Now I have a craving...

Bowl or plate, doesn’t matter. Brown preferred, but white ok. Fork.  Onion for me.

Need some kind of hot sauce.  Or peppers.

Accentuate the positive;
Eliminate the negative;
Latch on to the affirmative;
Don't mess with Mister In-Between.

1 bowl
2 red preferred, made on Monday.  If not red, it's like riding your other bike instead of your ready & waiting Guzzi....
3 fork
4 onion (and with red beans and rice- mixed bell peppers, garlic, celery all browned in bacon grease with fresh stock preferably with a shaggy hambone knuckle to cook for hours, plus both ham & chicken with some sausage but NOT kielbasa with fake smoke... include some nice crusty bread and hot sauce)

Wow, got some new old cast iron pots & pans today.  Now I can't wait until Monday to make some red beans and rice.

Small bowl to separate beans from other foods.  Brown, fork, onion is fine. Brown bread for extra credit points.

What is this "Ham and Beans" you talk of?

Is it a traditional recipe of the USA I need to hunt down?

 Dusty

I can't remember the last time I had Spam  :grin: :grin:

Perazzimx14 kindly PM'd me a recipe so I have an idea what the key ingredients are, but I have no idea what great northern beans might be and need a smoked ham hock.

Still my bike rides are focused around finding specialist small suppliers of quality food either to eat in, take away or ingredients

Latest discovery is G H Porter in Newark on Trent who do triple smoked bacon - so might be a source of the ham hock

They also do a belting pork pie right up there with those from Red Hill Farm one of our other food outlets

Thanks again

I've been all through the United States and never heard of this dish before reading it today.

Ham and eggs.

Rice and beans.

But not Ham and Beans. Learn something new e'ery day.

I agree with the last twenty or so posts. In other words, there is no wrong way to eat ham and beans. Only good and gooder.
80 degrees in Seattle, so maybe a cold pasta salad instead.
