Thoughts on Agostini small block cans?
« on: April 17, 2021, 05:20:08 PM »
I’m asking this after the fact, as I have a set on order from Cadre, but if you have experience with them, I would like to hear about it.

I agree with the above posting. I have them on my V7III Special and the sound is amazing. My only issue is what to do about the factory centers stand that smacks into the left muffler.

Chad, you might contact my guy in Okla City.  He claims to have developed slip-on mufflers than add 6HP to a V7.  He does have Dynojet dyno.  I have no idea if they make power but they do sound THROATY.  The V7 I tested did go down the road with some authority and was throaty.  Still, not a big block but sounded strong.

I have the V7II agostini carbon cans on my v65 and they are sound amazing. very loud with the db killers out (awesome sound tho) and a little too quiet with them in IMHO. I think I am going to cut down the db killers a bit and find a happy medium a la Kev M

This is because the stop foot is on the CS assembly itself, as a tab, and the adjustable bolt on the swinging part much closer in than the OEM.  You can see it in the install instructions. I went and looked at that after the other thread on the smallblock group. Doesn't help us right now, but gives me an idea of what a permanent fix would be, short of putting on the H-B stand. I still have my ghetto anti-rotation tyraps on though

This may not be the answer you are hoping for, but when I bought my III, Enzo told me about the factory center stand interference you mention. He said the H-B center stand does not have that trouble.

Guess I will be the somewhat contrarian here ...

I put a set on my V7 iii Racer ... at the time the price was a crazy $900.  They are way lighter than the stock exhaust.  Makes more noise.  I also loaded a Beatle map to make sure the fueling wasn't too lean.  And they are OK.

After having them a while I kind of wished I had kept my $900.  The weight savings really isn't noticeable when riding.  Performance might be a wee bit better, but not really significant.  And yes they make more noise, but meh, not too excited about that.  So for me, looking back at it, not really worth $900 IMO.

With.  Way too much without.  I like sound, not noise.  The Ago pipes are a bit more robust than OEM but by no means obnoxious.  It's the lovely tone, deep and forceful, along with a wonderful announcement when the throttle is applied, that is attractive.

I got my Agostinis from Cadre on my Bobber. I love them. Just a bit "fruitier" without being obnoxious.

Isn't Agostini the manufacturer?  What model slip ons are you referring to?  Not the horse hoof ones that are on the GnR bike that sold on BaT?

Chad,

I covered them in my V7 thread a few years ago.

They were great, after I modified the db killers.

Chad, I have a pair of long Agostini carbon pipes on my '14 V7. They were on it when I bought it with 15,000mi on it and they're on it now at 35,000. The baffles are in them. I've had compliments from other club riders on the sound, and ridden next to lots of police cars and never attracted so much as a glance from an occupant. I have a centerstand stop that is mounted to the leftside muffler mount - I thought it came with the Agostinis, but evidently I was wrong. I live in a highrise with an underground parking lot. When I start my bike in that lot, I've never had a dirty look from a neighbor. You'll love 'em...

My V7 Classic came with Agostinis when I bought it off the  original owner. I bought a Moto Guzzi centre stand kit that came with a chrome stop that mounts on the left muffler mount. I keep the dB killers in all the time as I’m deaf enough already.

My center stand came with that "stop" as well, only there is no way to mount that bit to the Agostini pipes, as there are no mounting studs like the stock pipes.

It may be difficult to see, but I only used the top mounting hole and attached that chrome stop. It hasn’t moved in almost 18 months and seems to do the job well.
