No exotica for me. I'm thinking a Honda Trail 125, and a R.E. 650 Meteor.  I also would like a fast reliable sidecar rig.  I miss driving one.

I am truly blessed.  Most of the bikes I’ve lusted after I’ve managed to acquire (eventually). Or came to realize I would not like, killing the lust.  And I’m currently riding the modern bike I’d most want to ride.   I’m pretty content and lust free at the moment.

But there are still bikes I’d love to mess around with for a day or two.   Maybe not own.  Just borrow for 24 hours, while riding in the right environment.

A street legal Yamaha TZ750.  (Oh, you know why)

A BMW R90/S.  (Which I know would totally disappoint me.)

A Honda CBX. (Which would likely disappoint me)

A Vincent Black Shadow.  I have no idea how I might react to that.

Eliminate the negative;
Latch on to the affirmative;
Don't mess with Mister In-Between.

Very wise words SmithSwede.  I suspect most of us would be disappointed with many of the bikes we lust after.  Same with a lot of things.

One of my former co-workers, who only lives 5 miles from me has a TZ750.  They are tiny machines!  And he is willing to sell it!!!

He also has two YZR500 Grand Prix bikes for sale.  He handed me one of the empty gas tanks.  It was so light I almost threw it up to the ceiling.  I think he said it is made out of .030" thick aluminum.  I would guess it weighed less than 2 pounds.

My lust list would be very dependent on whatever bike catches my eye at the moment.

Unfortunately, due to lack of garage space, I have never been able to cultivate the collector mindset.  As soon as I get up to 5 bikes I cull the herd.  2 or less means bikes have to be added.

I have wanted a 1972 Yamaha LS2 100cc twin for a long time.  But when a nice one appeared, I knew it would just occupy space.

That said.

the last year of the Norton 850 1975?
a 1979 Yamaha Daytona Special.
dozens of bikes from the late 60's or early 70's.

I used to lust for that next bike, especially Italian bikes, specific model or not.  I don’t anymore.  Totally happy with the bikes I have.

If I could have any bikes that aren’t here, I would have my collection of “keeper” bikes that I sold to fund my studio (Ducati singles, R69S, Quattro 500, Parilla 250s) sold in 06-07, plus my early sandcast Honda 750 & Ducati 95 900SS sold later for same reason.  Not the same models- the exact bikes.  They represented years of hard work, sacrifice and great deals via collecting & trading then-worthless bikes that i found to be great.  A smoking bargain on a great bike was/is part of the game.  Paying full retail is a drag.  Now they’re popular and likely forever out of my reach, but it was worth turning them into my studio.

As a back-up plan, there’s my friend’s 1987 Ducati F1B, the green frame 750SS that was purchased new with my V7 Sport, my other friend’s kitted 750GT he bought new from same dealer as my V7 Sport, maybe a Norton International, an XR1000 to build like Dave McClure’s BOTT race bike, …

Edit- almost forgot.  I would include my old 68 P11A.  Sold during Divorce 1, then hidden away to re-emerge untouched 20+ yrs later. We couldn’t believe it.  A friend bought it to restore.  It was here on the day the Parillas left, is now pristine restored and sold away..

A TZ 750 would scare the s**t out of me. A friend had a majorly hopped up H1, Tony Nicosia parts. That was bad enough. Saying that my list:
H1 - the sound alone
71 Eldorado - almost bought a new one
R90S - lusted after one when they first arrived, not in the budget
XLCR - unloved stepchild, but I liked them
BMW R37 - coolest looking bike ever

Decided I needed to add one of these to my list. Not sure if I could even start it. The 1976 preferred new ones are cool too.

Yes I never should have sold my TY. It was just a perfect little bike for a novice trials person like I was in 1990. Unfortunately I bought a TLR250R (the proper competition version not the later road biased thing) and it was too much bike for me. I rather too much for the amount I practiced on it.

I had a MINT, as in new, unridden, RTL250 for a year or two, serial number 15 of 15 imported that year, and sold it to Geoff Aaron, 10x USA trials champion for his museum. I couldn't ride that for fear of damaging something. But I bought a nearly new TLR200 Reflex and heavily modified it and made it into a great trials bike.....won many trophies on it. Will look for a pic. Found one but not a bike close up....will attach that later. My apologies for straying from the subject.

If prototype bikes are eligible, I would like a 1970-2 Yamaha GL750.  Four cylinder, water cooled two stroke in-line four that later became the basis for the TZ700 and TZ750.  Probably not significantly faster than the Kawasaki 750 triple, but probably more civilized and with more potential.

Kawasaki also made a square four 750 two stroke in the early 70's.  It looked interesting but never made it into production.

Any of the 1960's 50cc Grand Prix road racers with more than 12 speed transmission would be cool, not to own or maintain, but just to listen to.

I have nine bikes that are basically a slowly accumulated collection of what I’ve wanted to buy and hold forever.  I don’t plan on selling any of them and don’t want more due to the maintenance time and money but if suddenly that wasn’t a constraint these would be the five I’d add.

Bimota SB2
Laverda RGS Corsa
Yamaha RD400
Buell XB12SS
96 Suzuki GSXR750
