V65 vs V7 rearsets
« on: October 22, 2021, 04:37:28 AM »
Hello. I just bought myself a V65 and was looking for rearsets. My question is: Are the rearsets for a V7series conpatible with the V65?

No

I have a V65 and just got some take-off rearsets from a V7II

You would need to cut off the foot peg mounts from the lower frame rails, and weld two mounting points for the rearsets onto the lower frame rails. Re-locating the master cylinder or working up some sort of linkage would also be required.

So *possible* but they certainly don't "fit"

If this thread develops further, I can probably take some pics and add them, might take me a couple days

Ok, thanks for the reply. Just what I was looking for.

Unfortunately, I dont think there is ANY straight fit bolt-on rearset option for the smallblock bikes. Perhaps there was an aftermarket option at one time, but I have never seen them.

I'm not real fond of the aftermarket rearsets.  My son and I have put two different ones on a V50-III (his) and a V65 (mine).

With his the shifting is better than stock but he doesn't get any real braking from the foot-lever.  He ended up shortening a stock one for more leverage with the rearset peg.  (http://www.flyhammer.it/shop/en/rearsets/402-moto-guzzi-v35-v50-v65-adjustable-rear-sets-racing.html)

With mine the foot brake is also inadequate but I haven't bothered to deal with the problem.  I just ride the V65 and deal with longer stopping distances.  Luckily, after half a century in Construction I can still grip pretty well.  (http://www.motocicliveloci.it/inglese/catalogue/pedane_uk.htm)

If you could get the lower frame rails of any of the V7's to fit the V65 upper frame, then it might work. Not a cheap option. I shall look into that, it will be useful to know, just haven't got around to it yet - there's this post-- lockdown list.

Thanks for the replys you all! Got a lot of info here, as expected. The bike is my winter project and it should come out as a nice little cafè racer. Any tips on this is welcome.
