The article headline's use of "soon" contradicts the quote in the body from the CEO. “At some point in time, Harley Davidson will be all-electric,” the executive recently told Dezeen. “But that’s a long-term transition that needs to happen. It’s not something you do overnight.”

I would be very surprised if a 100% electric HD brand exists sooner than 20 years from now.

Typical modern reporting that is misinformation spread by those who only read headlines.  Only those who read the entire article get to the possible quotes.

The overwhelming majority of us can afford to adopt a casual disregard towards the spectre of electric only bikes.
We need not be concerned, because by the time they get here en masse most of us will be dead.
Let’s all just keep enjoying the party, before the cops come to shut it down.
My memories are safely tucked away where no one can get them and when I leave, I’m taking them with me.

it is truly sad,
But (IMHO) if Harley doesn't get away from its "one trick pony",  It won't be around much longer.  Perhaps they need to sell new products under a new brand, just to keep the the purest from going nutz, and get people to showroom that otherwise would never be seen walking into a Harley store.

Nothing much better than a Tannat from the Salta region.

Anybody else find it interesting that, Harley's electric history somewhat counterintuitive to it's current stated direction ?

ie..
Harley develops the Livewire than sells it off.
Harley purchases Alta (electric MX bike) then kills it off.

Looks like a bit of a short circuit somewhere !

Who did Harley sell livewire to?

What is Harley's one truck pony?  Their touring bikes?  Their all new redesigned 2018 softball lineup?  Their liquid cooled all new Sportster lineup?  The Pan America adventure bike?

HD didn't sell off LiveWire, it's now marketed under a different brand, but still part of HD.

HD is thought to be a one trick pony, because all they have really been successful at, (and they have been very successful at it indeed) over the last several decades, is selling mostly heavy weight, large displacement street bikes.   For the most part every other ave they have tried to go down has been a dead end.  Off the top of my head examples, small Italian bikes branded HD, the Nova project, buying MV Agusta, buying Alta electric motorcycles, the Bronx Street fighter, the  Street 500 & 750, the list is long.

How can we have a Harley thread - without Harley pictures ?
This one has a battery, so it's partially electric.

Well they to have claim to have 3-4 more dealers in the US than Guzzi claims.   And you can now buy the 5 plus year old tech of the Livewire for only $23k!!    According to what I found on the nets, HD/Livewire has sold less than 3000 units world wide as of Nov 2022.

You can choose what you want to believe, but LiveWire shows 83 dealers in the US.   As to the number sold, I won't vouch for accuracy, but I wouldn't be surprised if its correct.

At least if it flames up, you don't fall out of the sky.       No worse than a gasoline fire on an internal combustion engine motorcycle.  I always think of motorcycle and gasoline fire because of a friend that had a FLH.  He chopped it and turned it into his custom for his style of riding.  He was in the same apartment  module complex next door to where I lived.

We were cooling it after a Summer ride watching tv with sound off and stereo going.  Home grown form of MTV.  His bike catches fire.  Tanks blow off.  We put out the fire.  Seems he left the gas petcock on.  Took him about 2 weeks to get the bike up and running again.     Good mechanic and he sprayed the paint.  Found parts locally.  Replaced the wires that were toast.   :thumb:

This happed in Mesa, AZ during a hot Summer day above 100F.

Kballowe:  Lovely bike, but I fear there is a tiny dust mote on the rear cylinder, 4th fin from the bottom.  You need to be careful about things like that.  This is a serious publication, after all.

Evidently there is this for the skinny jeaned latte sippers. https://www.advrider.com/2023-harley-davidson-x350-and-x350ra-details-emerge/  Evidently the 750 from a couple years ago was too big......  :azn:
