I had the model pictured on my 850T for about 10 years.  It was nice and served its purpose.  I never really got to the bottom of problems with the the mount brackets flexing and developing stress cracks from bouncing.  It seemed that the small mounting weldments and hose clamps constantly needed repair.  Not helped by the lousy 850T front suspension.  When I took it off, it felt like I added 10HP.  That and the pure un-faired motorcycle feeling, it will likely never go back on.

I had one on the '73 Eldorado and then on this '81 Convert. I always loved the storage and the look. I don't have either one now.

These were fantastic equipment back in the day and I dare say there is nothing out there today that matches the quality.

I have had a couple way back one came on a 550 Honda I bought and another on a Converted Convert. I was coming back from work on I 91N in Windsor Ct, going home from work and got caught in a pop up summer T storm, I stayed dry till the off ramp and I had to stop for the light and got drenched and of course it stopped raining when I got home and opened the garage door. They where good and still are if you have one on you bike.

I have 2 of these on the shelf if someone needs one. I used a Windkutter on my 850T, better than a Jammer.

Is hardware for a particular year and model required to mount one of the windjammers?

Yes, I have the frame for mounting 1 on a Tonti frame, came off a Convert. The other came off an Airhead BMW and I have no frame for it, but I have a welder & steel.

Not the best background, this is my wife’s baby Breva with a Vetter Quick Silver, I found a bracket  for Kawasaki 650 and with welder modified to fit. Still haven’t painted it to match the bike, I like it but she doesn’t care for as much asI do.

I have a Windjammer on my BMW R75/6. It has been an on again off again affair for the past 24 years. Currently I am sporting a Windjammer III on the Beemer and like it so much I want one for my 1975 Eldo. I've been searching for one for several years. Guy out on the West coast said he would sell me his but never got around to it. Another rider on Loopnet said he would sell but nothing materialized there either. From my research, the difference in Windjammers for the Eldos and Ambos are the cut outs for the engine guards. Craig Vetter says the guys at the factory would call them mouse holes.
If anyone has a Windjammer off of a Loopframe, I would gladly give it a good home.

I always liked the clean look of the Windjammer -- it just looked like the aerodynamics were right, and the frame mount made sense. But the things weighed 35 or 40 lb (I think the later ABS models were lighter than the glass types) and I could never imagine burdening the front end of a sporty bike with something like that. I found smaller lighter fairings that did a decent job of wind a weather protection, including a frame-mounted Dunstall which weighed less than its mounting brackets. The SP fairing is about the best I've used and it's light.

I'm undecided on whether or not I want a fairing for my old Eldo, given the propensity for wobbles when you add to much stuff to them, but just out of curiosity...how much would you want for one of them?

I, too, love the effectivity of a Windjammer, but any I've had/used where waaay too heavy for my taste, so I'm rockin' a similar-vintage Calafia. Heavy-duty plastic instead of fiberglass, same coverage and style. Shame that they are not easily adaptable to modern naked bikes, or even remotely stylish by modern standards. But I still love 'em, because I place function as a priority over looks (except color; BIG advocate of having the color I like).

I have a few Windjammers still collecting dust. The sad thing is shipping got too expensive. I made a wooden box for some and took them 45 miles to ship with Roadway Express. I'll put one in the pea cup and bring to Cedar Vale.

Speaking of fairings,  I’ve been thinking about putting a batwing style fairing on the 1400 tourer but I’m not sure how the weird shaped headlight housing will fit. Any thoughts?

$100  and I have a new windshield for one. They are not for a Loop frame though. Those had a round cut-out on bottom that crash bar fit up into.

My wife pulling saddlebags when camping a few night near lake ontario. The Vetter is  by far the best fairing I ever road behind for any weather. Highly recommended for touring.

My r75/5 had one when I bought it, luckily the turn signal stalks were still on the forks, so the vetterectomy was easy.

Here's the model year '76 Convert I purchased from the original owner in April 2017.  He told me the MG dealer selling the bike new in San Francisco set it up with the Windjammer. I've kept this Convert as-is.

All the above compliments, plus....cargo capacity. Those front storage compartments could hold a ton of heavy small stuff...and a ton of stuff in the panniers...and a ton of stuff in a top box or bagssssss plural multiplied made for one hell of a touring rig. FACs and progressive springs and I never had a complaint from the from end, nay, indeed....the whole shebang rode better loaded to the gills with too much stuff...125k w windjammers...unloa ded felt weird after a week of overloaded.

The only thing better would be a windjammer with a Convert.....

I am considering putting my Windjammer back on my 02 Stone. Had it on for a little while, great protection just need to trim down the windshield if it goes back on.
