one of my great disappointments in life was not being able to meet Pete on the night he passed through Minneapolis..

Pete passed through Michigan on the 1400 by taking the Milwaukee-Muskegon Ferry. Two of us met him there and took the back way into Grand Rapids. It was bike night in GR and a bunch of Guzzi owners met up with him and fed him beers. It was a good time that I hope to do again someday.

The last time Pete was gone, there was a big void on the forum and it seems there is one starting again. Pete you are missed, but most on this board are waiting to welcome you back.

Maybe it is time to get the ignore button back, if it is not too much bother. I know I self ignore some people's posts as I suppose some do mine.

Luap has decided the ignore button created more issues than it solved . The basic idea that WG operates on is the lack of sub groups and cliques . Now , certainly there are people that interact more with each other based on familiarity , or common interests , not a bad thing . However , the campfire nature seems to work best for the greatest number of members .

The ignore function is still there.  I have a couple people on my list and it works well.  Click on "Profile", Modify Profile, then Edit buddies/ignore list.  I have no idea what the buddies list is for, but ignore works.
Cool, Thanks for the heads up pokeyjoe, I'll give it a whirl.

Just a couple of my thoughts on this topic...

All people are different, and we should embrace that.
Pete gave much more to this board than he took, I imagine that is a personal trait of his.
Pete shared his passion for life and could communicate in a unique, very entertaining way.
Some people have an "asshole" tendency/trait, sucks to be them. Really.
If you are one of those persons that likes to attack and rag on people beyond normal bantering, you need to get a life and/or therapy. Seriously, life's too short for that stuff.
I will miss Pete's posts on this board, until he comes back, hopefully.
I personally try to make it very, very difficult for anyone to offend me, but it has happened, just not here.
Life is too short to ride slow.
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

Interesting, As mentioned . Pete comes up as a guest? If a person doesn't post why would his screen name come up as "guest" ? Wouldn't the "guest" indicate he has officially withdrawn from this site....What happens on here at times is just too many clashing egos... :boxing:

I haven't been here long enough to know Pete well, we've
only traded a few posts, but his backlog of shared knowledge
is a large part of what I've learned about Guzzis so far.

I've been lucky enough to know a few like him, know one
now, he gives so much he can't help but feel depleted every
once in a while and needs time off occasionally to
"Replenish the Reservoir".

I can only hope this is the case with Pete, and that he'll
return soon.

Pete gave much more to this board than he took, I imagine that is a personal trait of his.
That is my experience over the last 12 months that I've known Pete.
We met at his pub to discuss my purchase of a new V7-II.
Since then he has gone out of his way to make my Guzzi experience awesome.

He has picked me up/dropped me off at work/home on the far side of Canberra to get/leave my bike for service (some 40 mins drive from his workshop).
He lent me his Mighty Mana when the crappy map update turned my bike into a steaming turd.
He's taken the bike back to check everything every time I've made a murmur about something being odd.
All this on his own time/labour/fuel.

As I see it, treat him fairly and he'll go out of his way to help you.
Treat him shit and he'll just cut you off.
And isn't that the way it should be?!?
Cheers
Craig

I work in the boat business yet decided long ago to not hang out on boating forums. Not to come off as arrogant, but when you work in an industry for 35 years, you don't want to waste your time getting into a pissing match with some know it all enthusiast. If that is the basic gist before Pete leaving the forum, then I'm truly sorry he left, but i can't blame him.  For the asshats who caused him to leave- I hope you're proud of yourselves.

Wow-  Pete, Lannis, Dave (Rodekill), JohninVT- we've lost some fun and intelligent members.

Same here. We had a firearms manufacturing concern, did quite well too. Learned early on to steer clear of the internet in a two-way environment. We eventually scrubbed our entire internet presence on forums, blogs and the like and merely had an electronically posted catalog - couldn't even order offa it.

These days, I VERY deliberately steer clear of inter-bait conversations having anything to do with our past or any of the platforms, whether rifle or pistol, which we built.

Another way to look at it, unapologetically as it WAS a profession, is this:

I turned away from ?***? for which I earn/bill x$s to take on this aggravation?!?

I'll may tell you a thing, I may even answer a question but I'm not gonna argue with you over something which I know significantly more about... Piss off.
Pete takin' a break or beaming out altogether? Yup, I get it.

This is not to say I excuse some of his more caustic responses or manner of communications sometimes - but I "get it".

Todd.

Thanks Dusty, 4:30 in the morning out my sunroom window. I'd like to post more but the photo's aren't Guzzi related and if I get carried away, they'll use up all WG bandwidth. I'll get a couple of more interesting ones up.

bump.  2700 views.  with only 40 members active at any given moment.  not too shabby.

Yes- but the depressing thing is that the Steel Cut Oats thread has 35,000 views and 645 replies.
I am actually guilty of posting a response on that one.

As a long time Roper friend, I can assure you, he did not run off as the post states, his vestigial tail and musk glands prevent him from running.... It's only nature
