Who likes a good wheel gun?
« on: July 28, 2017, 05:21:13 PM »
Picked up one of the new Colt Cobra's yesterday.  Moving up from a Taurus 605.  This Cobra is very nice.  I don't care for the bead blast finish but that's my personal taste not the guns fault.  Shoots like a snubby should, really smooth trigger in double or single action.  The fiber optic sight is a nice touch.  Could be a little bigger LOL

Don't forget the Dan Wesson, a simpler machine than a S&W.. not to mention more accurate because of the basic design.

I think they all shoot about the same, once you put them in my hands. I can make a doorway unsafe to come through, but I'll never win any awards.

I have my mom's first purse gun, .357 Colt Python with the two inch barrel.

Really like my S&W 5 shot alloy snubbie - doesn't even bag a suit pocket much.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

It goes to my grandkid Max from California. He had never fired anything bigger than a .22 in the Scouts. (He's very close to being an Eagle scout, btw..) <proud grandfather emoticon> and only 14. At any rate, I showed him how to reload some not hot  magnum loads, put the long barrel on it, and he fell in love after initially being a little spooked. It's a tack driver..

Wheel-guns?   Did somebody say wheel-guns???

I collect, and shoot, old Smith & Wesson revolvers.  Plus Swedish firearms.  Hence my handle "SmithSwede."   Old Colts too.   Carry piece is a first generation Detective Special made in 1931.   Sweet gun.

I'm so devoted to wheelguns I shoot them in Bullseye competition!   Also Steel Plate matches and IDPA.

Just last night I was fitting grips to a 1959 Colt Officer's Model Match .22.  Will test that baby out at the next match.

My all-time favorite firearm is a 1951 S&W K-38 with 6" barrel, "5-screw."  So accurate and "sweet" that it's spooky.  Close second is a 5-screw Combat Masterpiece from the '50s.

Next is probably a 4" Colt "Three-Fifty-Seven."    Few have heard of this one.  Yes, its caliber .357 Magnum, but it's Model name was actually "Three-Fifty-Seven."  Basically a pre-Python.

The only bottom feeders that hold my interest are Browning High-Powers and 1929 Model Swiss Lugers in 7,65 Luger.   I very much respect a Makarov.    Not a fan of a 1911, but I've probably shot 1911s more than all other bottom feeders combined.

Well I'm another devotee of the KISS gun but I'm to poor for Colts.

Smith 29 6 inch in 44 special for Bullseye

Smith 17  6 inch in 22 for indoor Bullseye

Smith 625 JM 45 acp for IDPA (because I hate reloading with speed loaders)

Smith 65 for pac'n

My youngest son uses a Smith 686 SSR for IDPA and he's Scary-Fast / Scary-Accurate

Living in California means we have an extremely limited selection when it comes to handguns.

I used to compete with a S&W Model 15 when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and I later moved up to a Model 19 for competition and duty use. Ruger makes some sweet revolvers, probably the strongest frames out there.
Only owned two Colts, a Detective special, and a Diamondback. Very nice guns, but they are now out of my price range.
That said, my carry guns are a Ruger LC9s, or a Glock 19.

I have a older 1986 era SW .44 magnum. Had a local revolver smith rebuild it to SW match specs as it had been bubba'd by a PO badly.  So it was no collectors piece. But it IS one heck of a great shooter! Its especially a pleasure to use with .44 special ammo.

SSwede,
You like Swedish firearms?  I've got a Husqvarna semiautomatic in .380 w a spare barrel in 9mm long.
Also have a stockpile of 9mm long ammo.
It's a great pistol.  Wasn't ever appreciated in it's time.

It shoots like a dream.  I bought Speer Gold Dot ammo to take to the range and never had a single problem.  Gun shoots nice a smooth and those rubber grips that I don't like took up most of the recoil.  At 15 yards I couldn't miss a beer can.  I miss the laser grips that were on my Taurus though.

Can a Glock 30S count? It's no revolver but it's sat at my 12:30 since the day I was issued my CCW, my 1 and only firearm so far. Doesn't feel that bad on the few dialing in miles I've put on the bike too with its low bar. Love .45 caliber

I like revolvers on the range.  Don't have to search for brass after shooting for the day  :)  My range gun is a 4" Python.  I used to carry a Ruger SP101 but changed to a bottom feeder for that, either Colt Commander or Makarov.  Now days I mostly shoot long arms when at the range.

I iz disappointed with this thread, I was expecting some contraption that was once tried for pit stops that fired wheels, or at least a impact wrench thread.

Back in the 70s I worked for a bit at a Gibson store. They had a surprising amount if guns. It was interesting to see people's responses when they could start with working the action of a FIE, than try a Charter Arms, then try a Colt or S&W. Of course a bit of price difference between them. Wish that I had not just graduated from college and didn't have any spare charge for a firearm at the time.

Here are my Dan Wesson's.  All of them are .357s but the SS in the upper right corner, it's a .41 Magnum.  I also have a few other revolvers that I carry.
The only semi auto's  I have are both 1911s, a CZ (who now own Dan Wesson) and a Ruger.

I bought a Ruger .357 mag Security Six in 1976 that's stamped with"Made in the 200th year of American Liberty"on its side that I still have.It was the first gun I bought. I've had multiple .22s made by Ruger throughout the years and now have an SP101 5 shot .357 2 inch barrel that is hammer less double action only.I do believe if I needed to stop an imminent threat on my life and it was within 15 feet there would not be a better gun to have in hand.

Swede,

It really carries well; the feel in the hand is perfect!  Sadly, when it was imported into the US it was stamped "380" on the slide.
I scored some reloadable 9mm long ammo + barrel, and am looking forward to trying that out.

I have a Colt Trooper 357.  4 in.  Hand cannon.  Wear ear plugs.  And when I shoot it at night, it looks like my hand has caught fire.   Shoot a few volleys and gun powder is everywhere and my (left) hand is exercised.  (Great ambidextrous firearm.)  Just a lot of fun to take to the range.

One revolver is enough for me, I can only shoot one gun at a time.

I think law enforcement went off the rails when they abandoned revolvers and went to 15 shot auto bullet-sprayers.  :police:

I go way back with revolvers, competing in NRA PPC back in the eighties and early nineties. Professionally, we switched to autos about that same time and I got into them in a big way. However, I still love my J-Frames (a 638 and a 642) and my single action Colt clone (an Uberti El Patron CWS). But the one I am most proud of is the S&W M13-1 in nickel that was left to me by my father. It is one of the smoothest K-Frames I've ever fired and the finish remains pristine.

My favorite - a .357 Magnum S&W from 1952. This is a pre Model 27 and has the optional rosewood target grips.

wasn't the sales pitch for the 357 magnum was that the cop could kill a flat head Ford with it while chasing a suspect?
