I recently obtained a Calif Stone and started thread about it here
https://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=112921.0I’m enjoyed the work so far on it and learning a lot as I go. Surprised that over 11 different Geese and all these miles on Guzzis in the past, I’ve actually done very little work on the engines except basic maintenance like oil changes, valve checks, etc.
One BIG surprise to me is that I never knew the frame was such a part of the breather system. When I investigated why this one had at one time in the past been spewing oil all over the engine I found dry rotted and cracked breather hoses, stuck ball valve, tons and tons of orange corrosion everywhere in there, and metal bits and pieces seemingly all over. I’ve obtained new hoses and I plan to flush the whole frame until clean but honestly, I wish there was a good system that bypassed the frame. I notice there are breather boxes one can buy for older Guzzis on MGCycle and such. No idea if they would work.
My breather system now vents from top back of the engine to the top of the frame near steering head where it separates oil/air, oil runs down inside frame to near the front of the top of the frame where hoses return the oil to the system via the heads. Just wondering if there are options for bypassing this? I mean, I dunno, maybe it’s a great system when it’s all working but all the stuff I’ve found inside the frame and the hoses has me kinda spooked.
