NGC, Honda CB 750 Choppers World Meet Ferguson NC
« on: May 25, 2021, 07:21:05 AM »
Im thinking of strapping a bag to the passenger seat, and riding 300 miles on my old 1971 CB 750 Honda Chopper , to the CB750 World Chopper meetup in Ferguson, North Carolina the end of June INSTEAD of going to the Italian Bike weekend at Two Wheels of Suches, in Suches Ga.  I have no idea if my old chopper would make it the 300 miles one way....and then back....but what an adventure that would be!!  Whoop Whoop!!!!!

Looking at your bike - 300 miles should be just fine...Just go easy on her, and you should make it OK! :thumb:

Might be more comfortable if you trailer it to within about 30 miles
Go for it!    and bring pics back.

Take the appropriate roads and work in enough rest stop time (with time to discuss the bike with admirers) and you should do fine.  300 miles at an average of 45 mph is under 7 hours in the saddle.  Add in a 15 minute break every 90 minutes plus a lunch break and you have a 9 hour day.  You could easily fit in more/longer breaks and still be riding in daylight.

Just a thought, take a riding buddy (or two) and rotate bikes every hour or so.
Hell, you could probably sell tickets for a chance to pilot that period piece of nostalgia !! :bike-037:

Oh, DEFINITELY DO IT!

Report back with LOTS of pics.

Those old fours were nothing if not reliable.
Clean the points, lube the chain, check the oil
and tires, and roll.

As others have said - you can ride and take a break
for 10-15 minutes every hour. Even if you took 2 days,
it would be a COOL trip!

Air pressure in the rear tire?

Run it lower.  Hardtail right?  The rear tire becomes part of the suspension.  Your kidneys will love you for it.   :thumb:

You are bound to meet some fascinating characters at a chopper event. Some of those guys built the bikes from scratch, the old timey way. Have fun!

Heres a picture of its rear end (I dont say that every day!)   Its quite the setup.  Not the most comfortable motorcycle (I have a 2010 Goldwing for comfort) but it is a hoot to ride in my opinion once you get used to it.

Amen Savior frame. About 2" of travel in the back. I would run 30PSI in the back tire.

Couldn't tell it was a Plunger frame from 1st pix.  Lower air pressure in the rear tire would let the rear tire slow the rebound since you already have a spring on the frame.  Try 25lb.  Check the tire after doing sprints on the highway for condition.  I had a hard tail and would run 15-20lb.  The rear Continental tire was the suspension.
