curtiss museum August 6-7 2016, many Guzzi!
« on: August 02, 2016, 09:19:39 PM »
In Hammondsport NY.
There are a lot of classics in the parking lot and displays in the museum.
http://www.glennhcurtissmuseum.org/events.php

If you don't know who Curtiss was, just type Curtiss in google and hit Enter.

Beautiful riding, just head up over any hill or cruise 54a on the west side of the lake.

I don't remember ever seeing a single Guzzi in the parking lot, but I know they must be out there somewhere.

Stumbled into the Curtiss Museum by accident while on a joyride to Ohio.
Put the whole trip one day behind.
What an absolutely wonderful place.
If you have a free day and like aircraft and good stores this is a place not to be missed.

Agreed, the Curtis Museum is a fantastic place to visit. He was into much more than aviation. Lots of cool things to see there.

If you have never been there, it is worth going. I have visited several times.

He was a great one with machinery of all types.  Father of the current 5th wheel RV too.

Love his airplanes.

Too bad he and the Wright Bros could not get along.  Had to be a forced marriage by the govt, with the resulting company doing a lot of good things too.

Where did you see a forced marriage between Curtiss and Wright. If I remember correctly Ford financed Curtiss's legal battle against the Wright Brothers to tie the Wrights' hands in court until the Wrights collapsed. One of them died and the remaining Wright blamed the stress of the Curtiss legal battle was what killed his brother. Wright never forgave Curtiss.

Then a botched apendectomy brought an untimely end to Curtiss.

Wow, huge showing for moto guzzi today.
Many V7, couple of Eldorados, 1 V11. From the count, it would appear that guzzi sells a lot more street bikes than tourers.
If you took some pictures, post some.
I was riding my 1958 R69 bmw with the wixom ranger fairing. I am still making up my mind on which guzzi would suit me best, so I didn't have one to ride, but I will by next year.

Then a botched apendectomy brought an untimely end to Curtiss.

'In 1917, the two major aircraft patent holders, the Wright Company and the Curtiss Company, had effectively blocked the building of new airplanes, which were desperately needed as the United States was entering World War I. The U.S. government, as a result of a recommendation of a committee formed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, then Assistant Secretary of the Navy, pressured the industry to form a cross-licensing organization (in other terms a Patent pool), the Manufacturer's Aircraft Association'

ie, a forced marriage.

Rode my LeMans down today. First ride in 4 years. I think my back is healed up.
Saw a pristine V7 Sport , Convert, and LMIV in addition to ones mentioned. Saw a lot of old friends today. Perfect day for a ride!!!.

I counted 9 Guzzis:

3 V7s (Stone and two Specials)
1 PRISTINE V7 Sport
1 Gorgeous Eldo
1 nice Convert
1 beautiful LeMans
1 great Breva 1200 Sport
1 awesome Franken Guzzi with a hand hammered/welded metal fairing that looked something like a shield or an eye (extremely well done).

Did I miss any?

PeteS mentioned that he rode his Le Mans, and then mentioned a LMIV (I'm assuming the white one that was parked near the Convert) as being one that he saw, so, that's two Le Mans.     So, that makes 10.

I'll post pictures later when I get a chance to upload them.

Coincidence, maybe fueled by this thread.

I think Jay had already wanted to head that way this weekend.

I think it was more coincidence. There were a lot more Guzzi riders that Guzzis there. Some had ridden other bikes. The weather had a lot to do with it I think. High 70s, low humidity, blue skies. After a week of humid 90s it was nice to just get out for a ride in one of the best riding areas of the state.

That was my Guzzi, sold to my friend Pete who did the hammered alloy (Pretus Rocks on this site) . I met Kev, Jas and again Pete S and some Brit bike guys... Kev is more impressive looking in person that his avatar photo
The 75 mile ride to the museum from the Rochester area was one of those rare days of perfect weather , traffic free two lane roads and no police in sight...

It was great meeting everyone... just a short 400 mile or so trip from NJ, well, if you take a relatively straight line, which I didn't, I mean I REALLY didn't since I started out by going South and then WEST to get from south Jersey to upstate NY in the Finger Lakes .

Yes, already wanted to go after seeing pics a friend took when he stopped by on the way home from the BMW-MOA Rally.   The fact that the vintage bike show was there made it even better.

I want to get back to up that region of NY and explore more of the roads.   I definitely liked what I saw, and enjoyed riding in Northern PA as well.
The PA Grand Canyon area is beautiful, as is US-6 across the top of the state.   It was a picture perfect day, if not a little on the hot side for the ride back across the top of PA, blue skies, and white puffy clouds.

We rode down from Rochester; it was a gorgeous day, and the Finger Lakes have some great riding. Sorry this took a while; it's been some time since I've posted pics.
We were very surprised at the Guzzi turnout; a lot there.

I'm not sure...an Eldo?:
