Title: National Vespa Parade Day!
Post by: Guzzi Gal on June 27, 2021, 01:42:19 PM
Eight Sonoran Sunriders met for breakfast and a short ride through a local scenic park before it got too close to the projected 108°.

Here is a short clip of our adventures in the hills surrounding Piestewa Peak.

Always wanted a "restored" vintage VESPA... :thumb:  Always thought they were cool... :thumb:

Prices are as high, (...or higher) for a restored vintage example compared to a brand new one!

I was hoping to win the VCOA's raffle for a 1904 Vespa Allstate. Alas, it was not to be.

Very cool- looks like fun.  I've had a few over the years, including a pair of Bajaj projects and most recently a friend's P200E.

Hard to believe that about 30 years ago, it was hard to get anything for an old Vespa.  It took me several months to get $200 for my complete but not pretty 58 GS 150...

When I hear or see “ Vespa” I always think of the “American Graffiti” movie,  where the blond tells Toad that his Vespa is “almost a motorcycle and I just love motorcycles”.
Great movie and  great bikes also!
Thanks for the post and memories,GG👍

Yup. He bought it in Tucson for $100, thinking it might be a bodge (bodge- a scooter that looks perfect on the outside but is really a death machine).
To his surprise, it turned out to be an almost completely original runner. He then proceeded to dip it and strip it, do most (but not all, he left some character) of the bodywork, had it plated, rebuilt, and upgraded the engine, wiring, and whatever else it needed. He rides it a couple of times a week and it purrs like a kitten!

We have a fun annual event called Scoot-a-Que. Lots of people from Ohio and Pennsylvania attend, it's usually in late September.

Here is a fun video some of the main organizers made a few years ago. Some years have been better than others, but usually attendance is pretty high, and usually a Vespa gets raffled off on the last night of the event.

That was a fun watch! :thumb: When I heard the bottle clicks, I knew what was coming. My people on my mom's side all hale from that area (Holms County) and this would be a fantastic excuse to visit.

You can probably be in the loop better if you join the Facebook page and follow twitter. It was cancelled last year, not sure what's planned for this year. Usually my wife says Scoot-a-Que on such and such date, then time starts ticking for me to to get our vintage scooters ready for it!

Again, a lot depends on the organizers on the outcome. We did our first one in 2012, then another in 2018 where we participated in most events. The 2012 had a ton of Vespa and Lambrettas (over 100 for sure), weather was perfect. Pretty sure one of the primary organizers for the 2012 one was Phil from Cleveland Moto, whom sells Moto Guzzis as well.

Nice video!   :thumb:

I'm a squeeze the tank with my knees kind of rider so not sure I could do a scooter.  I did test ride a Vespa at one of Sloans demo days and it really felt different and was messing with my muscle memory on clutch and brake.

Sounds like you might enjoy riding a vintage model with manual transmission. Brake on the right/foot, clutch on the left along with the shifting (left grip assembly twist to shift).

I stand all the time on my Vespa by pinching the seat between my knees. I have to remind myself to use the footbrake when switching to Anni by giving it a couple of good pushes at each start.
