Some things we stay away from on WG
« on: December 21, 2020, 09:05:21 AM »
Politics , religion , and long rants about controversial nonsense .

Look , I get it , lots of pent up frustration and uncertainty about future events . Still , everyone here agreed to the rules , no such thing as 1A protection on WG , sorry .

Keep it civil , stay away from the subjects we avoid , and stop with the personal attacks .

 Is this clear enough ?

...Is this clear enough?

It's really remarkable how an innocuous first-post on a topic can go south so quickly (through no fault of the original posting member).  You'd be hard-pressed to think of any path in logic to go from A to B to Z, but it happens (and it often seems to be done on purpose).

As I have always done (and always will), I will delete any of my posts (in this case it was just a photo from a ride) on a thread that is going badly, so I never saw how it all ended; but, I saw enough to know that you'd soon have to clean up another mess.

I'm sorry you had to get out the mop and pail, once again, Dusty.  There are plenty of us who appreciate what you do.

Dusty,

If I am one of the offending parties, I apologize profusely.  I greatly appreciate what you and Luap do, and all the posters here are great.

I've yet to see a single offensive post on WildGuzzi, so either you are scrubbing them before I have seen any of them or I am a bit dense.

I think the timeless wisdom you offered on the UFO Thread is priceless.

Fred makes a statement.  If Joe disagrees, Fred's natural response is "Do some digging!"  Makes perfect sense and works for everyone.

There's been lots of times in my life when after X hours of study or practice I thought I "had it nailed down."  Then after 2X, or 4X, or 10X, I realized my previously held opinion wasn't "the end all and be all of knowledge."

thanks again for all that you do.

Stay well.

Let's hope so , i'll take the work of organizing a rally and cooking for 50 Guzzista over managing an election season on here any day .

Gonna bend a rule here slightly in the attempt to explain a point .

In 2016 one side won an election and a couple of members here gloated a bit , and some other members expressed the opposite . I caught most of it , and faced a blizzard of angry messages from members who thought they were being treated unfairly .

Fast forward to 2020 and another election with a different outcome has occurred , so now the situation is reversed , those who don't like what happened are feeling sad , and get upset when we enforce the rules . Guess what , I try to always be fair , it doesn't really matter which side is causing a problem . I don't catch everything , and sometimes I try to allow some leeway if a statement is not problematic .

Try this , instead of sending me a message dripping with vitriol , stop and think , would you come at me in anger at a rally ? For that matter would you come at any member in that fashion ?

And this is how it starts..
Dusty does his usual magician’s trick and pulls the detractors (including me) into line..
That’s the way it should be.
Then someone (innocently) asks why or how his post was deleted and when he finds out, the first reaction is going to be a predictable one, depending on his personality or history.
The responses including this one, should be confined to a thank you.
BTW..
Thank you.

The policy is good.Folks tend to be a lot freer with their rants when they can do it anonymously on line. The only time I talk politics is with people I know agree with me,otherwise it is a waste of time and makes enemies.

If only it were that simple.

There is the rules, and then there is the interpretation of the rules.  We all know which way the pendulum swings.

From the "General Discussion" Header.
Quote
1. No un-justified personal or dealer attacks. 2. Keep the content motorcycle related. There is no room for politics, guns, religion, spam, click-bait, etc. 3. There is no room for "raunchy" posts with adult or mature content. This includes strategically covered nudity, sheer or see-through clothing, lewd or provocative poses, close-ups of breasts, buttocks, or crotches. 4. Posting of for sale items allowed only in the classified section. Failure to adhere to these simple, common courtesy, common sense rules will result in your being banned to ever post on the Moto Guzzi Discussion site again. That being said, Enjoy the Guzzi talk. Luap McKeever

Specifically #2.  How many non motorcycle related posts do you see in the general discussion section?  I count 12 on the first page.

From Luap's introductory post to new members.

Hey Dusty.

You know how each poster has a little badge indicating if and when they donated to the forum?  How about another little badge indicating if the poster has been naughty or nice.  Might encourage better behavior.

I’m kinda serious.   I’d like to see who are the Andrew Dice Clay types on WG.

Like it or not Dusty and in reserve, Luap are the basketball referees here. Overall they do a damn good job IMHO of monitoring the board. Occasionally feathers get ruffled but life goes on. Just like about any ball game, most people are not going to agree 100% of the time with the refs but the outcome is still accepted the vast majority of the time. And yes, spring/summer and - control cannot come quick enough. All hang in there.

The dividing line between NGC senseless drivel and NGC good drivel is ill defined.

It is good to have some drivel, since it keeps the forum more vibrant and that extra drivel traffic might make a few nickels toward website maintenance, but I can see how some forum members would be put off when drivel outnumbers motorcycle content.

Perhaps each original poster should ask themselves if they are about to drivel before they post. Be self-policing and limit yourself to one drivel original post per Guzzi content post and the ratio should be in balance.

I would have to define asking for help fixing a dryer would be good drivel.

OK , about "drivel" . There has always been a certain amount of off topic , or drivel on WG , and sometimes I can't or won't try to define it or delete  threads that might seem silly or non Guzzi related . Basically if a topic is suitable for a campfire discussion at a rally it will be alright on the board . Is a topic interesting to other members , is it educational , does it stir memories ? Music , literature , UFO's , questions about home repair , computers , etc . Over the years some of the best threads have been about sailing , Johnr , our Kiwi friend know gone to the other side was a wealth of information on the subject and could keep us interested for weeks on the subject .

Then their is a common interest in basketball that Muzz and Injun Dave and I share, mostly because Steven Adams played here in Oklahoma . I am loathe to stop threads where members are having fun and sharing interests . Keep them civil and free of the problems areas and things will be fine .

 Does this help ?
