The Kid's Eldo (long but Guzzi content)
« on: June 30, 2021, 02:14:39 PM »
2 or 3 years ago, a friend had been reading of *Some guy in Canada* traveling all over on his loop.  :smiley: He got the loop frame hots and bought an Eldo off ebay. I don't normally like to work on other people's motorcycles, but he's a good friend.. and I told him I'd get it running for him.
It had the usual bodges, and much of the electrical wasn't working. It had suffered a carb fire.  :shocked:  :rolleyes: Some carb parts were missing. At any rate, I got it running after finding out what that ignition module was that I'd never seen. Did some machine work. It *did* have nice wheels, fenders, and Gilardonis. (sp?) The tank was rotted out, and I cherry picked the best "not for a restoration" tank that Mark at MG Classics had.
He rode it for a bit, but it wasn't his cuppa. He had always admired Brad's (The Kid) white rollerized Grease O, and it was just sitting in the back of a hanger because Brad was always riding his Carb Spot.  :smiley: They made a deal, and The Kid started to make it his.
He said, "You know, it is everything I don't like about a motorcycle. It isn't fast. The brakes are only sort of ok. The handling is ok for what it is..and I absolutely love it! It reminds me of a 55 Buick. Relaxed, comfortable.."
The nut must not fall far from the tree..I said the same thing about my old V700.   :wink:

He and Nora were down here last weekend, and we visited Andy, Indiana MGNOC rep, who is recovering from a fairly serious crash.  :sad: Brad had been looking for some Wixom bags, and naturally Andy had some. When he told him how much he wanted for them, Brad said, "that's not enough, Andy..I'll give you twice that." (*Not Guzzi content.*)  :smiley:
It will be a beauty some day.

He's planning on riding it to the Iowa rally. I'll bring tools..

Looks great! I was wondering if it was the same one you'd been working on.

Ah, yes, all makes sense now.   Actually, none of this makes "sense", but we ride Guzzi, what more does one need to know?

He calls it "Carp."  :smiley: It came with some really raucous fish tail "mufflers."

The Kid has pretty good taste for a young feller
Accentuate the positive;
Eliminate the negative;
Latch on to the affirmative;

His view definitely worth hearing
Personally, my recently recommissioned 67 v700 is perhaps the easiest thing I’ve ever ridden to gently cruise, gently, bitumen  road or good dirt. But, I can’t deal with front forks. 3 times tried, pothole or bump behaviour just not acceptable when you’re used to better. Two ton in front of bearings has to go
What does your kid say?

I thought exactly the same thing when I got the Ambo rolling...  its like a leisurely beach cruiser ride thru the back roads- but no huffing and puffing and you're going 50mph

No huffing nor puffing at 80 on mine, slab is easy
Pothole at 5mph, it’s me huffing
