track day tire wear
« on: June 28, 2021, 10:08:00 AM »
So I did a track day at Road America last week and it was everything I hoped for and more. My question is are my tires still OK? See photo. Should I also consider changing oil even though I just changed prior to the track event? It was my first time ever on a track and I would definitely recommend the experience if you are on the fence.

Yup, that's what the tires will look like after a track day - if you do it right.  No need to change them or the oil.  :thumb:

A few hundred miles back on the street and you won't be able to tell.

They're fine.

I used to ride my Sport 1100 at Track Days and they'd always look rough after a day of fun.

I'm not an expert by any means but after a day of hard throttle work, I'd change the oil and filter for what little they cost.  Good wear patterns on the tires, you were really hooking it.

Tires show normal wear after a track day. Just remember to air them back up to street pressure. Oil changes at the regular service interval.

From the looks of those tires you were having fun  :thumb:
I've never done a track day but did a cornering day in a car park on an old California II, the instructor mentioned several times that I was almost dragging the rear crash bars.
The tires though looked normal.

Normal a lot of it will be pick up anyway, just keep tabs on your brake fluid depending on the track configuration it can be cooked, flush and bleed will sort it.
