Happened to me on Friday when I left it running while I was doing other things.  Came back to use it and it had loaded it's self.  I'm reading on other forums I'm not the only one this happened to this weekend.  Only problem I'm having is a "scripting error" window keeps opening.  I've turned it off in tools but it still comes on.

Not yet and I hope it doesn't. I have one computer on 10 and one still on 7 and plan on staying that way!

Ou can undoit.
Right click my computer and select properties. Then select review updates. Then select review installed updates. Then select the update number IIRC 3035583. Select uninstall and wait. When done restart and then go to Start and select Windows Update. Then search for updates. When it shows the available updates select important updates and then right click the aforementioned update. Then select hide update and then ok. It shouldn't come back.

Right Two Checks you can undo it but you shouldn't have to. It should be a personal choice and not forced on you. Just my 2 cents.

Does that mean you cannot un-instal it?

Good to know it just wasn't me.  I just watched my screen start doing the update without any input from me. So far I don't see anything that causes me any issues with 10 though.

Not forced as I chose to upgrade and then bought a new laptop with W10 preinstalled.

Actually I like it but I am getting 'script errors' with internet explorer...

10 is ok but Explorer isn't supposed to be on there, rather their new browser "Edge" which I disliked and replaced with Chrome.

I moved my work XP over to Linux Mint-whew!

I've had Windows Update turned off since Jan 2013. Hopefully that will take care of the potential problem.  :boozing:

If you have Windows Home (7 or 8), the Windows 10 version that gets installed has substantially less user control over the update functions, and is a bit hard to locate. It can be found and installed updates can be rolled back (in this and most other cases). Rolling back the whole operating system can be performed anytime within 30 days of the Windows 10 upgrade occurring.

As mentioned in other threads, the best tool to give you control over this and any future attempted to provide you Windows 10 when you don't want it is GWX Control Panel http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/. Install it and remove MS nagware and sneaky updaters, and set it to monitor for new ones.

I'm glad you mentioned this inability to control the updating process in 10. Thought I just hadn't found the right place to click.

We downloaded the free update but it refuses to install. Suits me. I was my wife's idea as she runs the son's business on a Windoze 10 machine and wanted the main one to do the same. I am happy with the 7 Professional on it.

Fossil-I don't like Explorer at all. Security issues, clunky and somewhat overbearing ,  I've always found it clunky-Chrome and Firefox have been much better for me in all ways.

Im our office Explorer is retained only for legacy programs running for certain financial institutions. Big, big pain.

I don't find Win10 any more irritating than any of the other operating systems out there, including Mac and Linux.

All of them have their issues, usually related to third party drivers/software.

Thanks for the link.  We're Win7 Pro here and it still installed on a couple of machines operating outside our domain.  I have a licensed copy of Win7 Pro on my home machine also and just get the nag screens.  I'll check out the GWX and see about using it here.

Not me, because I went Apple.

My old G4 MacBook 11 years old and going strong.  It's fine for online forums, YouTube, and word processing.  Getting slower on many sites and flash updates are no more.  Hope to get a little more out of it before another Apple takes its place.  Never a virus in all that time.

My wife's laptop was downloading all day yesterday but never finished.  She still has Win 7.  I just tried to  turn it off and it has 22 updates.

My computer still has not been upgraded and when I punch the WIndow Icon it just disappears.  Looks likes neither of us will actually get it.

I keep automatic updates turned off on all my systems (home and office). I have never seen the pop-up to upgrade that many people are talking about.

That's what I did too: converted my XP to Linux.   It works, but the Linux bugs and quirks are painful.  I still like it, but it's not painless.

The same applies to my old Dell Latitude D600 I keep for several reasons. It is from 2003 and runs great under Windows XP. Still gets updates for Flash, the Pale Moon browser (XP edition) and all the other tools.
My new laptop from the Latitude series however runs under Windows 10 from 29 July 2015 on. No problems. Main browser: Pale Moon 64 bit.

And could we please stop derailing the thread by telling experiences with total different OSīs?

The IT people at work asked that we not upgrade to 10. I think when I go in today I will anyway.
I have upgraded all four home PCs and it has worked well. I did have some issues finding a video driver for one antique laptop, but once I got that, it worked well.

We are required to use only Windows 7 and nothing over IE8 because of compatibility issues with our network.
