In the meantime Dusty,    is the closest we have.

Pete, I really hope for your sake it has been rollerized. Would be the icing on the cake. Lookwise, I can assure you I have seen worse munters that that. It really does not look too bad for that mileage.

Yup, it had buggered tappets! What a surprise! Now rollerised and remapped and tuned! Still a bargain. Disappointed that it has a leaking fork seal and no doubt it will need swingarm bearings and maybe a shock linkage but for what I paid? Still a bargain! :D

Do you think a lot of the DLC has gone in to the donk Pete, or is it just in the initial stages?

The tappets are buggered. At this mileage I reckon its on its second set because whoever was servicing it didn't know about the rollerisation option so when the first set went tits the stuck a second set in! Yes! This happens! A lot!

It also has had a Power Corruptor on it at some point as there injector cables have been chopped about and are wrapped in about a thousand kilometres of insulation tape. It's TB's were all over the place too but luckily it doesn't appear that Corporal Clothears messed about with the throttle stop screw and I've managed to get it running pretty well. There may be further tuning gremlins to discover but judging from the feel of the crank it doesn't appear that the rings have lost *All* their tension so they can't be completely worn out!

My guess is that it was a bike owned by someone who drank the Power Corruptor Kool Aid and when it went tits, (Again!) flipped it, My guess is they are probably on a Triumph now. Anyway, as I said, it's my turd now, (I'm going to get a sticker describing it as such for the hideous top box!) I'll nurse it back to health and everything will be peachy-ish!

It has very big boxes and is extremely black! I hate black bikes! Perhaps I'll pull some plastic off it and paint it bright, dog-dick pink! That'll upset the GS brigade!

Hail the turd!

I was up in Canada eh? fishing with the Kid and some friends. The kid has a fairly light complexion somehow, and was getting sun burned. One of our friends said, " You're getting too much sun, son. You're red on the head like the dick on a dawg."    I'll never forget that one.

Hi Pete,
Glad to hear about your "Turd".
Regarding the colour - have you any of the "Green Tree Frog Green" left?

G'Day Huzo.

1976 T3 that Ive had for about 18 yrs.
nearly 2yrs back we moved from the coast to the inner city. there is only space for 1 bike, so the T3 is "layed up" at a mates place in Bairnsdale.

2013 1200Sport. ex demo (150km) now has 20,000k on clock.
Rollerised heads "Roperised". Hepeco & Becker allumium panniers. last year i took it to Mandello via Holland.
6000k in europe 4 crossings of the Alps, 8 countries, blah blah. not really a "Sports Bike", but wouldn't have had anything else on the Autostradas, nothing eats miles like it!

Many other bikes in the past.
MK V the one which which did everything very well!
Aprilia RS250 (12 yrs) and MV Brutale, so I know what a "Sports" bike is.

Well, today I took it into town and got it inspected and registered! Given the fact that it was 38*C when I was riding back out, (Top here today is expected to be 41*C. Top in Quorn in inland South Oz is expected to be 47*C!) I reckon if it was going to crap its big ends it would of done it by now!

Not too shabby for a Turd!

So all up costs were, in $AU.

Turd-$8,000

Repairs-'A' kit, fork rebuild, service, remap etc. $1,300

Insurance and CTP-$550ish

Rego and stamp duty-$450 ish

So, a rollerised big tank Stelvio registered in NSW for a year with fully comp insurance for a poofteenth over ten grand. I'm not complaining. Runs like a champ.

One never polishes a turd, the best you can do is roll it in glitter! This is probably the best maxim you can apply when talking about Guzzis, especially under-maintained , high mileage, Guzzis!

I think you're really gonna like having one. It'll be a great stablemate to the G. It has one of the comfiest pillion seats ever. I think Jude will like it a lot.

The only thing that puzzles me about the Stelvio is why Guzzi didn't sell them faster than they could build them.

Norge would of been fine but I prefer less all encompassing fairings, my original choice was a 1200 Sport 8V but the Turd came up first. There is currently quite a nice looking Sport for sale in, (From memory?) Victoria foe 8.5K as well. It will need rollerising too of course but if I could afford it I'd snap it up too, (Yes, I really like the CARC bikes ) but I fear Jude would have my one remaining nut on a spike if I did!

Pete

PS Norge isn't nearly as dirt friendly!
