Haha, probably not great. The video specifically mentions that, and how low to the ground his feet are.

In flight aim adjustment of the guns.  :)

Actually it's impossible to see directly forward in some of these tail draggers so he guides the pilot on the ground.  He does get off before take off.
He lost the run of himself.

Yep that's it. You can see his hand directing the pilot because the taxiway is so narrow. Sighting the guns isn't usually done with the engine running I don't think and also I believe they use a tail prop to get the aircraft level.

Big, heavy, heavily armed, could go downhill faster than any other prop driven beast in the European theater, and brought most of it's
pilots home even when shot up to hell.  Truelly a warbird!

I've always liked those fighter pilots' attitude.  Eight .50 cal machine guns, a skull and crossbones on his nacelle, and 19 "Hakenkreuzen" painted on the side of the plane big enough for everyone to see .... sort of "Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough ..."

You need men like that to do that job.

Sakuro Sakai a japanese naval pilot and ace mentioned getting in behind one of these in his Zero, he shot every round he had into it, a few bits fell off, but not a lot happened.
So he flew along side it thinking he may have hit the pilot.
Nup.
The US pilot then just stopped crouching down in front of his armour plate, sat up straight, smiled and waved at Sakuro and then peeled off.
At this point Sakuro knew Japan had lost the war, this was sometime in 1943 if memory servs me.
Roughly remembered from the book The Last Samurai by Sakuro Sakai.

In a book on the women's air corp on WWII, a gal had just checked out in the P-47. Since she was to be a ferry pilot she was not taught combat maneuvering. She was then ordered to take a P-47 up towing a target banner for training AA crews. The AA crew commander told her to take a dive toward them. She did, not realizing how fast the P-47 would pick up speed and how much room it needed to pull out. She cleared the ground by less than 100 ft at around 500mph. The commander was impressed and told her to do it again. She not so politly told him to go to hell.
