Title: Kiwis? Call in.
Post by: pete roper on March 15, 2019, 12:34:55 AM
While it was a targeted attack I sincerely hope none of our members here have been affected by this atrocity.

Have just got out of lockdown at our local supermarket Pete; someone in military gear was arrested at the school 1/2 a kilometre from us.  He may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Our family is all fine.

Our son and grandson are not far from the Linwood mosque; they closed early and scarpered back home to Kaiapoi.  Sounds like the police are on edge in case there are more, cordons are still ion place.  Other grandson was in lockdown at the Linwood Library with a good view of the swat guys in action.  Seems like one of the attackers is an Aussie and changed the attack because NZ is known as a safe place and "he wanted people to know that nowhere is safe"

A fair few Christchurch residents still are having mental health problems from the earthquake, and something like this is the last thing they need.

Muzz, we're flying in to ChCh on the 22'nd. I'm sure the country will still be in shock. Can we take you and your lovely wife out for a meal, or drink, or anything?

Stay strong. These bastards won't win.

Pete

Lucy is tied up but my calendar is clear.  Sounds good to me. :thumb:

You're right about the shock. I for one still feel numb.

We're over for nine days. Have you sold her into slavery? PM me when you're both available. Want me to bring the laptop and check your beast?

49 killed, 22 injured, so far.

This is a very sad day! My heart goes out to everyone directly or indirectly touched by this atrocity.

You folks in Australia & New Zealand and on this list are my only contacts on your part of the planet; but we're close. Seeing last nights news was dreadful shock to all decent persons. My deepest condolences go out to one and all. May your minds and bodies heal and special memories help everyone get through this tragedy.  Sincerely,  R3~

What I can't quite grasp is that these morons think that this sort of behaviour is acceptable in our country. All Kiwis reject that notion. As Jacinda (our Prime Minister) said last night, "This is not who we are."

Thank you all for your thoughts. New Zealand lost her innocence yesterday.

Stunned.
As a CHCH ex-pat living in Oz, my heart goes out to all in NZ.
Well put, this is not who or what we are!

Horrifying, infuriating, and very, very sad.    We've fortunately gotten the "all-clear" from our other Kiwi friends (not on the board) but obviously this is a shock to the entire nation; it's not who you are.  What I do know though is that you're tough (in a very polite way).  Resilient.  Any country who can deal with earthquakes and Lord of the Rings tourists are not faint of heart.

All the best in the days and months ahead.

As we start the new day and partook of our usual Saturday ritual of sitting in bed reading the paper and supping a large espresso flat white, the news slowly starts to sink in.  A picture in the paper of half a dozen armed police walking down Langdons Road, which is the first intersection from where we live, sent my wife in to tears.  Me, I am still stunned and numb.  It is not who we are.  Our police on the beat are not even armed for goodness sake.

Fortunately I come in contact with at least a few Kiwis every year , heck , Steven Adams is a very popular figure in Oklahoma , the state loves our adopted Maori , I've always found Kiwis to be incredibly decent people .  No , this isn't who you are , we all know that .

It's a sad state of affairs.

I'm sorry that poisoned ideas have infected a great and tolerant country with such terrible actions.

Let's remember the golden rule and live and let live.

Still shocked to hear this news.

I cannot comprehend how someone can justify in their own mind that slaughtering unarmed innocent civilians, men women & children, is warrented.

Undoubtedly New Zealand will demonstrate how a civilized country reacts to this.

So sorry to hear, may the healing began. Although a much smaller scale we had a shooting in a factory 10 miles from my house. Four killed, many others wounded. It impacts a community in many ways. Although healing takes place it leaves scars.

We have just heard that the death toll has risen to 50. Apparently another body was discovered inside one of the mosques.

I read this morning on the Book of Faces that, per head of population, this would equate to 3345 people dead in the US. It goes to show why we are taking it so hard.

A local appeal has raised $3,666,000 at the time of writing. This will be used to support the families of the victims.

Pete, every one of us has been affected by this tragic event, truly a dark day in our history.

The outpouring of support from people in  Chch and right around the country has been overwhelming and let’s hope it continues long into the future.

Apologies, I should of said directly affected. It is obvious that the whole country is mortified. While it is no consolation I would say that we too, as a nation, are in a state of shock.

I spent the weekend doing exactly what I do every weekend. Riding one of my Guzzis and spending time with my girlfriend and her kids because that's how we show them they have not won. Our daily lives go on. They cannot win.

Just got word from my Son that one of his former coworkers was killed in the attack.  He left behind a wife and children and was 34 years old.

He came to New Zealand as a software developer from Pakistan, and was a pleasant caring man.
