Building this '69 V700 as my "adventure" bike to explore fire roads, dirt roads, etc. while still being perfectly capable of highway use. I'm planning to ride the MABDR in June (if I get it completed and bugs worked out in time). I'm not going to post all 200+ photos here, just a link to the Flickr photo album.

GOODY!... Talent AND patience!.. and that white rear brake rod? Maybe was a white bike at first. My 69 V700(originally white) had both a white brake rod and the battery tray was original white. Keeping that coil blue too? Ha! Hope you make it in time for the MABDR.

Looks like a sweet ride and a heck of a project. Congrats on getting her close to being on the road!

The original owner says it was a white bike originally, but when that cracked and flaked off he had it painted this lovely green metallic. I'll be adding gold decals, but no striping. Planning to have some "V7 TT" decals made for the battery covers. He swears that he never painted the brake rod, so I guess it must have come that way. Battery tray might have been painted - there's white showing on the underside. The coil will stay blue for all the world to see.

I'm a big fan of dark metallic green. :thumb:

Fun all the way around on this - following this now!

Very cool project, Charlie. It's looking great! Can't wait to see how you finish it.
-
First start today! Mostly dialed in, but I think it could benefit from larger idle jets. Still work to do before I'm finished.

Just looked at the https://ridebdr.com/MABDR site again. What type of bags are you going with on this one? Are you going to add engine skid plate guards below?

I was going to buy some sort of soft "dry bags" and make pivoting holders for them. But, I've changed my mind and will likely buy a pair of used Pelican 1500s like I have on my Convert and make mounting brackets.
I'll be fabricating a full-width skid plate for under the engine. It will attach to the bike at the front engine mounting bolt and to the frame rails at the rear.
Big stuff still on the "to do" list: solo seat, hinged rear fender, skid plate and saddlebags. Oh yeah, and a "beak" - every real adventure bike has to have a beak.
-
Beak?,...what's that mean?
-
Um....this

Love it. The right color, enough patina to tell the story.

Um..OH! didn't know about the "Beak" thingy,... and it being necessary for a true adventure experience, thus missed the humor, Thanks, learned something new (not too unusual for me ) GO GETum Charlie!

First short ride around the 'hood today and little "off-roading" on the lower part of my property. :bike-037:

A few changes since the last photos: Harper's solo seat borrowed from my Ambassador, luggage rack from MG Cycle/LGC, Pelican 1500 cases with my own mounts. 350 miles on it now, breaking in very nicely.

looks really good. You riding her to Mt Airy?

Yep!

charlie that is a cool bike!

In preparation for an overnight trip down to Cass, WV, I cleaned up the original "polizia" fairing that came with the bike and mounted it up. Also installed the driving lights and a steering damper kit.

The "tutto terreno" looks great Charlie! What is your impression of the Emgo shocks you put on? I am thinking of putting a pair of 13" on my eldo to replace the too short 12" progressive 412's that are on there now.
Thanks,
Rick.

Okay damping, firm springing, but getting better as the miles pass. I'll probably end up replacing them with Ikon Basix.
Added a top box last week. Apache 3800 case from Harbor Freight mounted with leftover scraps of the MDS filled cast nylon bar.

Fits onto the LGC luggage rack perfectly.

Loosening this knob removes the case from the rack.

Wow, Charlie! That topcase looks fantastic! I really like how you made the mounts easy to remove. :thumb: :thumb:
I ordered a pair of the emgo shocks with the spring visible/black body in 335mm length. I wish they gave information on their spring rates. Most reviews state the springs are pretty stiff. I thought about the IKON basix, but could not find them in the 13 1/4" length I want to try out.
Rick.

When I was shopping for these particular (vintage Triumph) shocks, I searched the part number on Google and found one seller that listed the spring rate: 90/130. That was the same as the "heavy duty" springs I put on the Progressive dampers that I had on "Barney", so I knew they'd be close. I think the dampers need a few more thousand miles to break in and then they might actually work decently.
