Title: Kid's Riding Gear Recommendations Please!
Post by: Guzzi Gal on March 16, 2019, 10:25:41 AM
I'm back with more questions.

Having three kids who want to pillion, I need proper street gear.  Our daughter is 8 but tall and super skinny (size 5 skinny), the middle boy is a trim 11, and our eldest boy is 15 and doing his best impersonation of a beanpole.

Helmets are easy to come by, but jackets for the street are harder.  Our kids are Phoenix fair weather riders, think temps between 60 and 100 degrees F., so textile (mesh?) with removable liners or leather with venting options would be best.  As they are still growing I don't want to break the bank just to replace everything each year.  Ideally, I'd love something under $50. for the younger two, very wishful thinking on my part but I love a good deal if it fits the bill.

As always, you "guys" are the best! :thumb:

I'd be think motocross gear - armour & protection in lightweight kid's colours - should be plenty around, in the right sizes, even second hand.

Sign up on ADV Rider under the flea market section go to the "gear" section and post sizes and what you are looking for. Wait about 3 minutes and the offers will start pouring in. Good group of folks over there that like here also love to see kids involved in riding. Also since kids grow like weeds there is a lot of gently used gear out these that a lot of times get paid forward.

my buddy has 3 kids about the same ages. He has found alot of riding gear for them at cycle gear, in Tucson. You guys should have one or more up in the "big Valley"Its mostly dirt riding gear, but can offer some protection on the street as well. Its cheap enough where it wont break the bank.
Great looking kids, your household must be alot of fun! :thumb: :thumb:

We're about to go through this again with Seamus (~5).

Fiona (7) has an HJC youth helmet, Joe Rocket women's XS armored/mesh jacket, some FOX Motocross pants with armor (and suspenders cause they're big), and various boots.

Looks like Alpinestar makes a line of youth motorcycle boots.

Not sure what we'll do for Seamus's jacket. That might be harder because men's sizes are much bigger.

Im pretty lucky. My wife, and my two daughters [ 12, and 16] are all about the same size...  So one set of gear will fit whoever wants to ride with me. Granted... if any decide to. :)

Follow up.

Got everything we wanted at Cycle Gear yesterday. Spent a pretty penny but worth it.

Two Built helmets in child sizes (Fi needed a new one)
Two pairs of motocross style boots (Fi needed them too)
1 XS Alpinestar (women's jacket, shhhh don't tell Seamus it doesn't look it) on a black/white color scheme.
1 pair Built motocross pants
1 pair child gloves

Oh and one pair of Kevlar reinforced/armored jeans for me.

Don't know if this was a local or national thing but they were giving 10% off the entire purchase (yesterday and today). Basically one of the helmets was free.
