Title: CANCELED/WEATHER/Tn/Ga (North Carolina this time) area May Guzzi Meet and Greet
Post by: bobrebos on April 19, 2019, 04:00:55 AM
Mays Tennessee/Georgia area meet and greet will be on May 11th 2019 at The Greenhouse Moto Cafe at 1:00 pm.  It’s address is 4021 Haywood Rd (Hwy 191) Mills River, North Carolina.  It is located about 20-30 miles south of Asheville NC.
Yes, I know that’s mother’s day weekend but that’s the best date I could find and you can still get home in time to celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday.

Come one come all to Mays meet and greet!  Again, May 11th at 1:00pm

I might make a weekend out of it.  Maybe ride over on Friday and tent it for the weekend at the Mt. Pisgah campground on The Blueridge Parkway.  About 25 miles from the Greenhouse Moto Cafe.  Mt. Pisgah campground is walk up only that week (No reservations accepted) so Il try to get there Friday at a decent time to try and get a tent site.  Anybody else interested in a campout that weekend?  Just throwing it out there....

I would love to get up that way.  Will have to make a last minute decision based on work, weather, and wife's schedule.  Any camping near there?

I’m going to shoot for The Mt. Pisgah campground.  It’s at 408 Blue Ridge Parkway, Canton NC. which should be about 25-30 miles if my google maps is right, from The Greenhouse Moto Cafe.  The campground is a walk up only during the week of May 10-16 (No reservations allowed) so I’m going to get there on Friday at a decent time and try to get a tent site for the weekend.

And that campground is about 60 miles from Mount Mitchell so a good round trip day ride for me.  I have to travel home on Sunday to meet my Wife's schedule.  Now work and weather.  I will probable haul up there on Thursday so I can get a couple days of riding in.   If I go I will have bike(s) in the trailer and will be sleeping in the back of the truck.

If I make it up there and the camp fills up before you arrive, you are welcome to set your tent up on my site.

It’s been suggested I (and others) camp at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground instead.  59 Motorcycle Drive, US 276, Cruso NC.  Will that campground work for you??  I’m thinking of going there instead.  That’s about 35-40 miles from lunch at The Greenhouse Moto Cafe in Mills River.  Your thoughts on staying at that campground instead??

That's a m/c dedicated campground. I'd support them if I was there. It's a haul tho from western Nv. Hope to move back there sooner than later. Been away to long. Hop y'al have a good, safe time.
How I miss those roads.😞

BRMC is great, it's near the parkway, but not on the parkway, and you can make some great loops from there...

the closest possible campling is probably Turkey Pen Gap Rd, but its very primitive and accessed by a steep gravel road.

That is at the bottom of the hill west of Pisgah?  I'll check but not sure they will let me camp in my truck and enclosed cargo trailer.

I show an address of 59 motorcycle drive, Canton no. And on my map The Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground is 6.4 miles North and a little west of Mt Pisgah campground.  I’m not super familiar with that area but I’m willing to camp at either one.  Let me know which one you prefer (regarding your truck and trailer) and Il pitch there.  Just let me know if you can go and to watch campground you prefer when you know.  Where would you be coming from?  Later...

According to the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground website they have a designated parking place just outside the campground for parking of trucks and trailers with a ramp to assist with loading/unloading bikes.  Under the “about us” tab of their webpage....

I'm coming from near Fayetteville, TN.  My broken body will only let me ride about 150 miles in a day if I want to walk the next day.

Sounds like I won't be able to sleep in my truck at Blue Ridge so I am going to shoot for Pisgah.  I did read that Pisgah does have shower facilties.  Some campgrounds on the BRP don't.  Showering in a sink is not that much fun!

I along with a couple other riders will probably be staying at the Blueridge Parkway MC Campground per those riders request.  Will see you at The Greenhouse Moto Cafe in Saturday at 1:00pm if you can make it for the weekend trip.  Maybe we can ride over to Mt. Pisgah campground and say hello!!

I think you can crash in your truck at BR MC camp, it's just on the other side of river(over the bridge). There is a shower house and kitchen in the middle of the place. Good place to camp.

I believe that is where a Guzzi gathering occurred back in '07 or '08 when I was up there on my Ninja 650R.  Got some photos of a few Guzzi bikes that I didn't even know existed since there were no Guzzi dealers anywhere near me until Sloans picked them up a few years ago.  If I can dig them up I will post them on this forum and maybe some of you will recognize them.

I would rather set up camp near my truck so I will stay up at Pisgah.  No big deal.  When it gets dark I go to bed, and when it gets light I am up.  I may ride down to your campground Saturday morning and meet y'all and ride with you on Saturday.

Friday I am planning to do the ride up to Mount Mitchell for my Obligatory photo at the elevation sign and the rest stop with the highest elevation on the PRP sign.

Sounds good. Nobody will like riding with me though as in my old age and the fact I got run over on my bike by a car a few years ago, I have learned to slow down.  I don’t take the twisters fast anymore and don’t really care much what others think about that!  Hope to see you/meet you on Saturday.  Be safe.....

Given the thread title and previous Tellico area attempts, I had missed the shift into NC..  GuzziSteve brought me up to speed.   It's a busy bike week around here. I already had tentative plans but will try to come to the Greenhouse or at least one of the campgrounds Fri PM to meet folks.  I'll be driving, not riding.

I was at the Meltdown in Hendersonville (not far from the Greenhouse) last sat with my V700 project and there were several other Guzzis- 4? Loops, 2-3 Tontis and some newer bikes. Don't remember ever seeing that many Guzzis there before.  Had I known, I would have invited any non WG riders to the Greenhouse.

this week is 2 Stroke week at the Dragon/129/Deals Gap, so the Smokies may be extra smoky..

Edit- I was mixed up on my weekends.  Next weekend isn't the AMCA meet at Denton, so making it to the Greenhouse shouldn't be a problem.  Very cool.

Il make the call on Wednesday of this week as to whether im going to the Blue Ridge Campground on this next weekend (10th May-12th May) and The Greenhouse Café in Mills River, NC Saturday at 1:00pm.  Weather forecast may be a little more accurate on Wednesday for the Weekend.  I understand why i get messages/emails from people canceling due to weather forecast, but man Im getting tired of trying to get get-togethers scheduled and the crazy weather wont cooperate!!!!!!!!!

I hear you loud and clear on the weather...can't catch a break in any of my planning with the weather being so wet.

Y'all took the words out of my mouth, or thoughts out of my head? Blue Ridge MC Campground is about 35 miles from Mills River, on Hwy 276, north from the Brevard/Hendersonville road junction, and a gorgeous winding trip up the mountain thru the Pisgah National Forest, by Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock, lots of beautiful scenery. BRMC has also been the home of the NC Guzzi Rally for many years on the 1st weekend of August, this year from the 2nd-4th. The campground also has about 15 cabins for those that don't want to tent it. Great place, you can't go wrong there.

I will tell anyone not from the area to take the weather reports with a grain of salt!! WNC and specifically the Brevard area is a temperate rain forest and rain is ALWAYS a possibility. Accordingly, if you look at any weater app, it says *at least* 50% chance of rain almost every day from April-June.  Doesn't mean it's gonna rain, just means it might.  The rain pattern is sporadic, generally short bouts this time of year.

True, but we are watching a weather system moving across the country that is going to hit here in Middle Tennessee on Wednesday evening and bring rain through the weekend.  If it was just the afternoon pop up stuff that you can wait out or not ride into is one thing.

But yes, I have learned over the years that last minute decisions are best when it comes to riding in the mountains.

Due to washout, rain all weekend (10 May-12 May), and everybody cancelling due to the weather or other commitments, I will not be having/going to the May TN/GA monthly meet and greet campout at Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground or the lunch at the Greenhouse Café on Saturday at 1:00pm.  I understand everyone's concern about the weather etc.

Again it is CANCELED.  Hopefully we will have better weather for the next one.
