Title: Testing My Aesthetic Judgement
Post by: PMDMN on April 26, 2019, 03:29:45 PM
I like most everything about my V7III except the tank color - Giallo Energico.  Perhaps its because I've been a Vikings fan for 50+ years and it reminds me of the Green Bay Packers.

In any case, someone was parting out a V7III on ebay a couple of months ago and I acquired a tank with one nasty dent in it for about 160 dollars.  My painter stopped by today to show me phase one - dent repaired, base color is GM's Sunfire Yellow found on the '66 and '67 Corvette.  A simple single stripe is now in the works.

I won't say it's progress, but the new tank will be very nice! 😁

At least the Packers have some Super Bowl trophies.. I live in Bloomington too.. soon I'll have a black Guzzi but for now watch for my yellow machine.

I owned a DR some years back and am confident that somewhere in a closet I have an unused Acerbis tank that fits it.  It's a bit larger than the stock tank though probably about half the size of the washtub you're currently using.  Let me know if you're interested.

here's a 2017 V7II Special, originally in the 'Blue Zaffiro' colour. Since repainted in grey, similar to the Milano 'Ash Grey'. Racer side covers also look good, similar colour. Few other bits and pieces as well make for good first impressions. Nice bike! Belongs to a mate of mine who is also customising an R80 at the moment which you can see in the background.

I believe I met that bike & owner at Walcha recently. The photo doesn't do the colours justice.

PWDMN, you paint your tank any colour you like, it's your bike, and you don't really know until it's up & running. Some schemes grow on you. And if you don't like it, you can always change it. I had the bare metal tank for the V7C done in a matt grey. A couple of years later they brought out the Milano, then the matt chrome of the new Racer. So it's no longer all that unique, but I'm still happy with it - it's not as striking as the 1000S patterned Special, but it will do. And I could always change it - the painter is just up the road.

So, why did you buy the yellow tank bike to begin with when you had several choices unlike most Japanese bikes where you get what you get.

It looks interesting.  Are you doing fenders / side covers too?

There were at least three reasons.  I've ranked them in descending order of personal importance: 1 - It had a great price;  2 - While I dislike matte finishes in any color, I disliked the yellow less than I disliked the black or green matte finishes which were also available at the same great price; 3 - A bike with the blue matte tank, which I might have preferred to the yellow,  was not available.

I considered doing the fenders and possibly the side covers as well but decided against it - partly for cost reasons and partly because limiting myself to the tank makes the whole business completely reversible.

Makes sense.  I almost bought the all black one (leftover) as a base for customizing and then realized the Carbon Dark is what I really wanted so I went for it.

Watching to see how it looks with the rest of the bike.   :thumb:

Personally, I dislike when people make loose associations like what color a car is or what a rainbow now represents.

Can't have a Crimson vehicle here.  Especially one with a white pinstripe or everyone thinks you are a Roll Tide fan.  LOL!

My Road King was silver and blue and people asked me if I was a Dallas Cowboys fan.  I said no, a US Air Force fan!

I enjoy the Ritchie Blackmore Band "Rainbow", but if I wear my Rainbow shirt people think I am supporting alternate lifestyles.  LOL!
