I finally made it back to North Carolina earlier today with a very nice (new to me) silver 1995 1100 Sport. Picking this bike up in Chicago turned out to be not so much fun. It took around 14 hours to drive up to Chicago from Raleigh (it’s 860 miles one way), and it was 17 hours of drive time to get back home. I have never been to Chicago, and now having been there, I’m good, no need to ever go back there again. It took me over two hours to drive from the north side of Chicago, where I picked the bike up, to the south side. Saying “rush hour traffic” just doesn’t quite say it! It’s more like “WTF” 🙂
But, I love the bike! She will need new tires, a full service, removal of the luggage rack, and a good cleaning, and she will be ready to roll! And this bikes full Termignoni exhaust sounds incredible. I think that this exhaust sounds much better than the Mistral or Staintune systems which some of my other bikes have installed. I will post a video tomorrow with the bikes engine running. This bike also has a carbon front fender installed, but sadly enough, the original silver fender is MIA. The engine has Raceco chrome moly push rads installed. This bike also has different Heli bars, Delrine manifolds, Throttlemeister, and newer batteries. The last owner also removed the stock side stand and installed a Daytona side stand, which is much more user friendly. I also received all original components and a lot of paperwork, which included the original sales papers. And I almost forgot, I absolutely love the golden wheels!

“If I stack the Gixxer, the Guzzi’s yours”.
Off we went with me secretly hoping he’d get cleaned up by a B Double on Bell’s Line of Road.
(Hoped he’d stay alive long enough to sign the transfer form though..)
It felt like a cement mixer compared to the Suzuki, but absolutely “alive..!”
Gave it back after 10 minutes.
That was in 2,000.
Next Guzzi I rode was the ‘07 Norge, brand new, sight unseen.
How different could it be.,?

Congrats on the new edition. The silver ones really bring out the sculpted lines in the Sport.
I can see that the Delrin manifolds would certainly keep the carbs from "moving around", as compared to the OEM rubber bellows.
Do the solid mounts of the Delrin manifolds have any other benefits to the carb/fueling of these bikes?

All US 1100 Sports have the rectangular headlight design. I just bought a European trapezoid headlight fairing and light to convert one of my 1100's over to that design. I just don't know yet on which bike to modify. I was going to install the red trapezoid fairing on my red bike to save some $$$ from needing to repaint the fairing, but the trapezoid fairings MG logo is in Gold, and my red 1100's logos are in silver.

I also bought a rear passenger seat fiberglass cover, which will change the seating to a one-seater. I will add that cover probably to the same bike.

I actually like the cleaner look of the 1100 with their air box installed, so there is a pretty high possibility that I'm going to reinstall this bikes original air box. This bike came with two large boxes of spare / original parts, and so I have the original air box.

I hear you my friend! I also have a 1996 GSXR1100 sitting in the stable. My GSXR, although being almost the same year model (95 vs. 96) as the 1100 Sport I just bought, is absolutely incredible. The term "George Jetson meets the Flintstones" comes to mind! It's too bad that Moto Guzzi didn't outsource the drivetrain to the Japanese on those bikes. Just imagine the 1100 Sport with a 200hp engine and a well designed gearbox! But then again, the GSX-1100R & the 1100 Sport both have their place in this world.

The GSXR 1100 engine is capable of producing up to 600hp, which is a big reason why there are not many of those bikes still out there. Most GSXR1100's were wrecked by their owners or they became engine donors for other race bikes like Bimota.

:grin: I thought the same when rescuing the one of 17 LMVs from downtown Chicago. Pulling a trailer during rush hour is an adventure. :shocked:
Not that we don't like Chicago. We used to belong to the Art museum, and would hit the jazz and blues clubs 2 or 3 times a year.

We'd go direct to a downtown hotel, park the car, and either walk or take a taxi everywhere.

I don’t think it’d be as nice if it went like the Spewzuki.
With the Guzzi, you can feel the bike “doing the work”..
With the GSXR, you open the taps and a secret message is sent under the tank to tear your arms off.
Because the Jap bike is so enormously capable of doing anything you ask, it almost seems too easy.
Like kissing your sister on the lips, really easy but absolutely no fun.
(Until you find out she’s not really your sister.. :kiss: :wink:)

Congrats on a terrific find Andy, :bow: It's always a plus to score the original documentation, parts and spares. Fun to put the paperwork in order and look back through it's history and see its evolution. Cant wait to see it in a great "line-up" photo with its bretheren :thumb:

When I first saw that bike over 20 years ago I knew I had to have one. Ended up trading a Quota for my Blue 96 in 2002. When the owner of your new bike got a deal on that Termi system he offered me the Mistral crossover and carbon cans for a song; without question the best deal I ever got.

I have the Euro fairing on my Daytona and much prefer it over the US version, and mine came with the 4-way flasher option.

You'll find they are all wired for hazard lights/ four way flashers, you just need to get hold of the switch and plug it in.

Once you fit the trapezoidals, you may find, as I did, they they are woefully inadequate lights for night time & tunnels. (A comment was made to me when I complained - "What in the blazes are you driving the 1100 Sport at night for? No one can see it"). Not the best for a tourer. I fitted small LED driving lights linked to high beam, which evened up things well. Some years back, there was a post on the V11 Lemans site from a Japanese living in Taiwan who changed over to a round 7 inch, and built a fairing to suit - beautiful job. A mate in NZ with a Magni Sfida (1100i based) mounted a 7 inch round light, but the last photo I have, it was running without the fairing. It may well be different by now, knowing him. The trapezoidals do look right though on the Sport.

Sadly my next one passed away on April 9th, age 15. I adopted him 14 years ago.
I have no words to explain the love he showed me every single day.

Sorry for your loss. That is a good long life for a Boxer, we have had three that died at or around the age of 8.
Our dog Candy is now my 6th Boxer, 7th for my wife, and yes they are quite dedicated to their owners.

when you have some time would you please include a pic of the bike with the luggage rack installed. the setup that i have is a nice handbuilt unit that looks a bit like an oven rack and replaces the pillion seat. i would like to see what other fitments are like.

I have a '93 Daytona. I've not seen a side stand such as the one in your pictures. I don't have the courage to drill 2 holes through the stick and expect it won't fail. Do you know a source for a similar stand?
Several years ago I made slight changes to the aluminum swinging link connecting pivot point to the spring. I had them water cut. There are leftovers to be donated. PM me if you're interested. R3~

I already removed the luggage rack this morning, but I did take one picture up close. There is a second part to the rack which is a taller vertical section for larger luggage. This luggage rack must have been made specifically for the 1100 Sport, since the racks mounting holes are in a perfect alignment with the bikes frame.

The luggage racks were made by Ventura? I have one very similar installed on my Aprilia. Very high quality. By loosening the screws on the back of the tubes, you can remove the flat portion of the rack and replace with just a bar which ties the two sides together.
I believe their USA distributor is in Washington or Oregon.

You just need to pick up a red 1996 Sport 1100 with gold decals to use that fairing on... I may know of one... :wink:
BTW, the carbon front fender on the bike you just picked up was a Guzzi accessory item back in the day. So, it's a period correct modification. I almost bought one for my 1996 Sport 1100, but eventually decided to forgo carbon fiber on the bike...

About the side stand, Joe Walano ("The Guzzi Doctor"), who sold me the bike told me that my side stand was a Daytona stand. The stand looks like that it came from the factory like it. It does not look like something that someone fabricated themselves at home? I will most definataly keep my eyes open for more of them.

V11 Sport / LeMans sidestand. I put one on my Sport 1100 because I like the wire loop.

I'll throw this in - when I picked up my Sport (some 5 years back) I rang Ventura (in NZ) and ordered one - they keep their jigs, said it would be a week or so before they could make one up. Posted it out, and it fitted perfectly. A happy chappie.

Yes, that is a Ventura rack. I had one on my '96 Sport for a while, but then I made my own rack. The "down tubes" are bike specific, the top sections are universal. (I think there might be a couple of different versions of the tops, to fit different widths.) They have bags made to fit, there is a sleeve that goes over the tall rack. You can also get two of the bags and zip them together. Here are some pics from a Suzuki I used to have.

I've looked at dozens of V11's wanting to believe they were a solution. Bought the wrap around wire loop, with hardware. Discovering the 'spine' down the back side of the supporting rod, on the Daytona, negated that as a solution; w/out outside help. The larger gauge, added on the loop pictured, is welded to a steel pad, then bolted to a similar pad welded to the side stand support rod. The 2 bolts appear to be slightly off center of the support rod centerline. I don't see any nuts on them. Loctite? Staked? In my view doubtful it's 'factory'.
It's nicely done. Perhaps the Dr. did it, but wants not to spend the amount of time it takes to do it again? R3~

Thank you Rocker59. I'm a believer. The yclept replacement, ~5 years ago, from MG Cycles, is a wrap-around wire loop with 2 screw eyes. It came in what appeared to be factory packaging. I've not seen different until this thread. It would work if that spine on the back of the support rod were not there. Best, R3~

Finally got the Magni (1100 Sporti running gear) together, after the cylinder relining and head work (new valves and guides)
Anyway I'm with everybody else on the Euro headlight they look far superior, in the UK we got the same sqare headlamp setup you guys got too, but pointing the opposite way of course.
The Magni has the Euro headlight so I'm happy about that
Still working on cornering the market then Andy? You'd better watch for the Competition and Mergers Commission coming after you, or whatever the equivalent is in the US :copcar:

Hi John,
Even I realize that I have come to a point where I have to many bikes sitting in the barns, so I will eventually need to sell a couple of them. The biggest issue I have with selling any of my 1100 Sports is to pick the ones that will be cut from the collection. Each one of my bike is unique in its own way. Let it be the color of the bike (not many people own all available 1100 Sport factory colors), let it be the type of exhaust, performance chips, carb versus EFI, a super low 1388 milage bike? And how about the bikes history like being the first 1100 Sport that I had ever purchased, or a bike which spend most of her life within a museum, or another one whom's owner died without ever ridden that bike? Sometimes it's not easy to part with something after you put your heart into it.
But, the time will come probably sooner then later when I'm selling maybe three or four of my 1100's and my 79 Yamaha XT500. Not that I have made up my mind, but the blue 96, the silver 96, a yellow 97, and a red 97 will probably be the ones that are eventually being set free........

Is it true that your collection would hold a value greater than the sum of it’s parts ? I don’t place much store in that as a reason for keeping a bike or bikes, but surely as a collection, your lot must be pretty unique ?

To each his own - I would not choose the 'Euro' headlight for my Daytona RS. The reason it was not legal in some markets is that it is ineffective as a headlight. It's a Japanese item, originally designed for two stroke 250 cc repli-racers of the mid-90s. Obviously it's fine if you never plan to use the bike after dark, but it's functionally inferior.

You won't hear me arguing with you, I don't ride at night, ocassionally dusk. I've heard that the headlight is P**S POOR, I put an LED into it and it's bright enough to get me noticed.
I agree it's style over function, that said I remember my disappointment when I got my Daytona and all the blurb had the Trapezoid and I got the square one. :cry:

I know what you mean, I don't know how long I'll still be riding and I still cannot bring myself to think of selling the Magnis, it's going to be gut wrenching come the time, I may not bother and just have them downstairs to look at.
Be a lucky guy who purchases from you, because he'll get a well sorted machine, which is more than I can say I got with the Sfida. Paid a small fortune for a Lemon and then spent another fortune sorting it (well I think I sorted it, time will tell)
Good luck with the sales although I hope they don't happen, you have a unique collection, Oh and the Yammy is lovely too, I always lusted after an XT.
