Title: I can't trim my hedges
Post by: britman on May 04, 2019, 09:08:00 AM
Every year they get me, besides loving to leave their droppings on my red truck they tend to make their nests in the most PITA places around my abode.  This year a robin has her nest on the top of my step ladder, at least the babies are growing and hopefully will be leaving the nest shortly.  I also have a Dove who has nested in the very top of the hedge, she never leaves and I can't tell if the hatching has taken place or not.  Regardless, my hedges look like crap and with the ladder out of commission and the Dove claiming "Squatters Rights", they are apparently going to stay that way.  The winner is still from a couple of years ago, when they got my helmet, now I do keep an eye on leaving the the garage windows open.....

You've got to be quicker than them (and it's not easy being quicker than a robin), and discourage the nest before they lay eggs in it.

If you miss, well, they're not there long anyhow.   The wrens got into a bucket in the woodshed before I knew it, so that'll have to stay there this season.   And we're having to leave the outside shutters open so the the bats won't be there leaving their little messes behind .....

Rockin' Robin
Bobby Day
He rocks in the treetops all day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song
All the little birds on Jaybird Street
Love to hear the robin go tweet-tweet-tweet
Rockin' robin, (tweet-tweet-tweet)
Rock-rock-rockin' robin' (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Every little swallow, every chick-a-dee
Every little bird in the tall oak tree
The wise old owl, the big black crow
Flappin' their wings signin' "go bird, go"
Rockin' robin, (tweet-tweet-tweet)
Rock-rock-rockin' robin' (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
A wordy little raven at the bird's first dance
Taught him how to do the bop and it was grand
They started going steady and bless my soul
He out-bopped the buzzard and the oriole
He rocks in the treetops all day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song
All the little birds on Jaybird Street
Love to hear the robin go tweet-tweet-tweet
Rockin' robin, (tweet-tweet-tweet)
Rock-rock-rockin' robin' (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Well, the pretty little raven at the bird bandstand
Taught him how to do the bop and it was grand
They started going steady and bless my soul
He out-bopped the buzzard and the oriole
He rocks in the treetops all day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song
All the little birds on Jaybird Street
Love to hear the robin go tweet tweet tweet
Rockin' robin, (tweet-tweet-tweet)
Rock-rock-rockin' robin' (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)

Yes. Live and let live.

I agree 100% Good job leaving them alone britman

The wren couple who build the nest in my shop every year are at it again . The female has already knocked the male's first attempt down , he is busy building the second nest

I feed some of the feral cats in the neighborhood, and it keeps the pigeons away. I have one that I started feeding young and even put up a little house for him outside my front door.

Once they're living in a little house of their own, I think his status has moved beyond "feral" to ... well, something better!
