There was a discussion a few days ago on fuel mileage on the 1400 models. I’m on a road trip from NC to Charlestown SC. After a full tank on I95 and a correctly checked results by dividing gallons used into miles and not trusting the computers results, I got a solid 40 MPG, about the same as three Harley’s in the group. Conditions were simple, Consistent 75-80 MPH the entire tank.

So was the bike computer accurate?

My position on this is generally that the computer is probably more accurate than the human who is filling the tank without a beaker to make sure it is filled to the exact same amount every time. When you're only dealing with ~5 gallons, a extra pint or quart is not insignificant.

if the guy was riding with a group of Harleys, simply looking at the fillups for the various bikes at the gas station would confirm the story.

Not when you fill it to touching the bottom of the rim. Just get technical Kev😂

Ok, what’s your point?

Actually yes. At least with most of the tanks on my bikes there are pockets of air above the filler lip and below the top of the tank.
Then you have slopes at some gas stations (side to side or back to front).
For instance my Stone will act differently at fill-up on the center stand vs side stand? Or hell the V7III D leans over more on the side stand than the V7I, so they act differently then.
But in both cases of I will fill up above the lower lip then shake the bike I can fit more fuel in.
Then there are pumps that fail calibration checks.
I dunno I just think there are generally more factors than we can effectively eliminate.
I use both (reading and calculation) as a guide and they are normally pretty close. Certainly close enough that I don't worry about either.
