Thinking about painting my exhaust pipes black the adding Angostini mufflers.
Advice on prep and painting?

I’ve given up doing it myself...Jethot does a great job that lasts...with a corresponding price tag
Locally to me, and there might be one close to you, is a media blaster that also ceramic coats in shades of grey to dark charcoal, in a mat finish. The local guy had a more fragile finish then Jet-hot, but the cost was 1/2
Never had a spray can 2000 degree can work for more than a few months even w prep. Ymmv

Ceramic coating seems to be the consensus thanks guys.
I'll check prices then come to my senses.

Did same on my V7 with Agostinis. Google “Cerakote” and find a shop nearby.

These look nice. Not black though. Im curious how much the coating would cost.

You can buy the Cerakote and spray it yourself. It needs to be baked at something like 400F, so consider that. But it's not all that expensive, and definitely cheaper than having it done. My guess is this is the same stuff when they Ceramic Coat your exhaust. It's made in Southern Oregon - I think Roseburg.

I've had several exhausts professionally Cerakoted. Not outrageously expensive, and it still looks as good as the day it was done.

Chuck that is good to if I ever get a front wheel for the Benelli 250 2C It has a solid exhaust but crusty. Chrome would be more then it is worth!

Dave, just had the pipes and BUB mufflers aluma coated on the cx100 they look pretty sweet

I've done rattle can ceramic paint on all the used dual sports I have bought. Takes about 2 weeks to do it right with light coats and cure time.
Looked as good when I sold them as when I finished painting them.

Unless you have a oven big enough to heat the parts how is it less expensive than having it done turnkey?
Yep, that's the deal breaker - an oven large enough or send them off.
twa - could you give us more data on your rattle can ceramic jobs? What are your successful actions?

I can't remember exactly what brand of rattle can I preferred but this is what I did.
Pull the exhaust and sand it smooth making sure to remove all signs of rust.
Paint several light coats over a few days. Let it cure for a week. Put pipe back on the bike, start it up until pipe gets very warm but not hot. Shut it down until cold. Repeat several times over the next few days slowly letting it get hotter. I do this since I don't have an oven to put the part in. Comes out nice.

So much work - Now, when I was about half as old as I am now, with less than half as much money (snaps suspenders), what I'd do with the old Eldo was take it to the carwash and spray away the mud and grease, then take some sandpaper to the pipes.
Then I'd run the bike until the pipes were hot, and spray directly onto the running bike with deft precision, thereby avoiding getting paint anywhere it wasn't desired.

This thread got me moving so just returned from the local gun shop who is Certified Cerakote Applicator with a large oven.
I'm going with the 1800 High Temp Oven Cure V-172Q Gold
(https://i.ibb.co/Ny6QDD0/Cerakote-V-172-Q-Gold-is-a-brilliant-bright-gold.jpg) (https://ibb.co/Ny6QDD0)
on the header pipes and Agostini 2-into-1 collector. Hey there's Gold in the MG tank emblem
(https://i.ibb.co/3B1xvFW/Moto-Guzzi-Tank-Emblem.jpg) (https://ibb.co/3B1xvFW)
and Brembo brake calipers. And the Gold will POP against the White fairing.

They told me the V-series is the most colorfast, UV-resistant, chip-resistant finish Cerakote has.
Cost will be about $200. They said they will keep the parts for two weeks although I don't know why with oven cure. But I was talking to the shop owner, not the Cerakoter who is 7.5 months pregnant so that's another worry. The owner says he has a backup plan but...
I'll post pictures of the result.

Just received Cerakote V-172Q Gold on Norge exhaust pipes and Agostini Y-pipe from applicator Gunfighter Tactical in San Diego $200 (I also tipped the painter who is expecting).
(https://i.ibb.co/YXhfGCr/Cerakote-Delivered.jpg) (https://ibb.co/YXhfGCr)
As you can see not quite as glossy as shown on website but pretty well matches Brembo brake calipers. I've mounted them but haven't put all the bodywork back on so you will have to wait for that picture. I'm very happy with my investment.

Some High-Temp BBQ Black from a rattle can will get you by, while you're mulling over the cost of ceramic coatings.

Buy the ceramic rattle can. Mine held up for several years before selling the bikes. Maybe cost you $8 to $12.
