I've owned this bike since 98 and have accumulated 120,000 miles on it. I started having transmission problems 14 years ago, so I parked it as I had other bikes to ride. Now I'm retired and those other bikes have gone by the wayside. I spent a couple of months lavishing attention to every need the old girl that she needed. And today I finally took her out for a 100 mile ride to let her breath again and she rewarded me with the same glorious sensations she used to provide. It's really incredible that such a simple bike is so satisfying. So easy to work on. I have less than $700 in the restoration including the trans rebuild and rear end rebuild plus brakes, forks seals, carbs, etc. I think that's a pretty good return on investment. Looking forward to another 100,000 miles.

Incredible machines.
If only my neck would have let me keep mine :embarrassed:
..Too many dirt bike get-off's.

Very nice!

Ah, it's the slow red one. Well done. Now all left to do is get out there & ride the wheels off it.

14 years of looking at it, and I bet ya heart still skips a beat at the beauty!

Yes it does. I'ld keep it in the house if my wife would let me.

The bodywork on those (and the Daytona RS) was probably my favorite variety of a road-going Guzzi.

And a tip of my hat to you central/south Florida, Martin's@Bikeweek brothers.

Only one I wouldn't get a fight over if I wanted to put it in the house. Lower living room. I still might do that with Dayton 1000 #3.

Well,
to clarify - that's the Sport (Spot) 1100.
Last of the carb'd & rhorty hooligan sportsters! Last thing Guzzi made that deserved the name 'Le Mans' (IMHO).
Good enough to please, simple enough to phuk with and make yer own.
Have a '96 myself. Think of selling it now and again. Then I ride it.
Can't. The Sex is too good!!

What type of transmission problems were you having with it, and what was the fix? Sounds like you had some great riding out it with 120k on the clock!

Groover, the trans. started jumping out of second gear, both on acceleration and decel. When I took it apart it was obvious and just what I expected. The dogs on the gears had rounded off a bit. I searched everywhere for new gears but couldn't find any. But I persisted because I didn't want to go the route of transplanting helical gears. I like the turbin like whine of the straight cut gears. I got lucky after talking to a lot of people and found a guy local to me who's business is fixing motorcycle transmissions and he's been in business for 30 years. He welded up the dogs and recut them with a 5 degree undercut. He did a beautiful job, the gears look like jewelry. I then replaced all the bearings and seals.

Great info, sounds like a nice skilled repair on that one. Didn't know you could do that!
