My 2001 EV needs to have the rear tire replaced (worn).
This will be the first time replacement for me, so I have no experience with other brands and would like your opinions.
I know there is a very small clearance from the tire to the centerstand and would like to know what is known to work on a 2001EV.
Currently it has Pirelli Sport Demon 140/80 VB 17 M/C (69V)
The Sport Demon seems fine, but I don't know any better.
Can y'all give me a rating of brands of good better best and DON'T (that will clear the centerstand on the 2001EV)?

I havent changed the one on my 02 stone yet, but when asking I was told a 130/90 fits great... maybe even better..

I JUST went through this. Read my recent posts. I put on a Shinko tire and did all the rear bevel stuff too. Check the Cush drive n all. Everything’s easy.

I use stock size 880's. Completely satisfied.

I've been using a Michelin Activ 140/80-17 and I'm happy with it. On my second one now. This one has over 8,000 miles on it and it looks like it has at least 2,000 more miles left.

I like Avon AM26 Roadriders.
Any tire you are thinking of I would suggest getting them
from American Moto Tire. Great company to deal with.
I second the 130 size for the rear. Handling seemed better and no clearance problems.

For sure amt for tires. Only place I go. I did the Shinko 130 tour master. Glued to the road!

I'm still kicking this around, but about to pull the trigger on tires.
It freaks me out how close my rear Pirelli is to the swingarm, so I'm going to go down one size as suggested by others.
Every post I see about going from 140s to 130s has 130/90 compared to 140/80

I'm looking at the Shinko because of the good ratings I see on this board.
My user manual states 69H/69V/69VB. That seems to leave the Shinko 712 out at a 68H.
The Shinko 230 is at a 74V which seems to exceed needs. This model seems the way to go.

I just put Bridgestone Battlax BT 46 140 80 17 on the rear of my 2001 California Special and it fits just fine (clears the driveshaft) and Bridgestone BT 46 110 90 18 on the front. I like having a matched set (Both BT 46). They ride smoothly and handle very well. E bay from Chaparral motorsports. Like about $225 for both I mounted and balanced them.

I have run Shinko 712's on both my Jackal and a CalVin. The Jackal has a 130/90 which I prefer. It quickens up the handling a bit.
I also have Shinko's on my Griso which have been great.

My Jackal has Shinkos on both ends , 130-90 on the rear , 100-90 on the front . It is like a ballerina compared to the Bassa with 140-80 and 110-80 Metzlers .

I also use the 100-90 Shinko on the front. I also have the forks dropped about an inch. She is nimble as a ballerina!

Since your first post about this, I have swapped to the Shinko 230 on my 02 stone. I went with the 130 90 17 size and it works great. I will say handling is improved... but thats not really fair say being that the old tires were rock hard Lazertech's, and over the winter when I changed them, I also did other stuff, like replaced fork oil, adjust head bearings, and lowerd the fork tubes in the trees a little bit. That being said I really like the tires! I did have a strange feeling of the bike "tipping" a little side to side wile riding straight down the road. Not enough that you could see... just a slight feel. That went away after about 200 miles of tire break in. Im vary happy with them, and the 130/90 works great.

Metzeler 880. Handle well and get great mileage.
