Title: Oil Capacity Cali 1400, Eldo, Audace ???
Post by: kballowe on June 09, 2019, 06:09:15 AM
For you 1400 owners - how much oil are you returning to the crankcase for an oil/filter change?

The service manual says 4 liters, but my experience is that 3.25 liters puts it just a fuzz above the "full" mark.

There's 0.7 liters between the "low" and the "full" marks on the dipstick.

This is with the short OEM oil filter or the HiFlo HF565.

I use 3.2 liters  - absolutely no more. The 4,010 l in the manual is for a dry motor and oil cooler.

Never trust the manual...lol.  I did and it filled my air box with oil.  I put 3 liters in, go for a ride around town and then top it off when the engine is warm.  The black plastic dipsticks make it a little hard to read the oil level so I drilled three very small holes in the fins of mine.  One at the low level, one in the middle and one at the top mark.  When you hold up the dipstick, light hits the hole with oil in it and it’s much easier to see check the level.

Do not trust what the manual says concerning oil capacity for a normal oil change. I learned the hard way, I won't even go in it to that. 4.25 approx is completely dry oil changes. Start by putting in 2.5 quarts and then check.  Add accordingly till you reach desired level, then you will know. Do fill up your oil filter prior to installing. BK
