Title: Cheeky question !
Post by: Pizza Guzzi on June 10, 2019, 12:40:02 AM
Ok absolute basic beginner question. On the Breva1200 are the tank cheeks attached to the tank or the frame or both. I don't want to break something taking the tank off.

The sponsons stay attached to the tank. Remove the 'Grille' that goes between them at the front, (two button heads with 4mm Allen hex's in them each side and an 8mm dome nut in the middle at the bottom.) and then remove the bolt at the back of the tank.

From here it will really help to have an assistant as you need to lift the rear of the tank and disconnect first the four pin connector for the fuel pump and level sender and then the tank drain and vent hoses which go to a 'T' piece.

The final thing is to disconnect the 'Quick Disconnect' on the fuel hose. You do this by pushing the hose towards the pump fitting, pulling the collar back and them pulling the hose off while holding the collar back. Sometimes this is easy. Sometimes it's an absolute bastard of a job. Do make sure that you don't exert any strain on the red 'Elbow' fitting on the pump because if you snap it it's a sod to replace.

Once everything is disconnected you pull the tank up and back. Get your assistant to spread the sponsons over the mounting rubbers so you can lift the tank free and carry it away from the bike.
