Title: Toying with the idea of a custom paint job
Post by: Neogas on June 11, 2019, 07:15:56 AM
Hi all,

Love the look of my Roamer, but then I saw the black and red sketchbike kit for the V7 and the blend of red, black and gold.

I did some very amateurish photoshopping - what does everyone think?

Spend your money on gas and tires.

Spend your money on gas and tires.

That’s a good plan ;-)

I like it, and would add a little flourish to the top black area.  Something like this:

Hey, it's your bike. Really whatever blows your hair back is all that matters.

Me, I like two-tones in the right combination, but I'm generally not a black or red bike kinda guy so you're asking the wrong guy there.

I hate overdone, ornamental pin striping so I wouldn't go that way.

I also don't like mis-matched fenders, so for ME, I'd probably go a solid color or two tone and try match the fenders and tank, and possibly the side covers.

Of course if you're doing black and red two-tone then your fenders might be matching then anyway.

Bottom line - have fun, show us what you wind up doing!

RIDE SAFE!

Don't listen to anyone. It's your bike to do whatever you want with it. I think it would look cool, but my opinion is worth what you just paid for it...

My T-3 was originally a police bike and the police paint job was getting ratty when I bought it so did it as pictured.

I like that scheme.

I like the color combo, myself. I say go for it! The Italian paint that comes stock on MGs isnt all that great quality anyway.
I am a big fan of making the bike "yours", and custom paint is the easiest way to totally change the look of a bike. I have been known to paint a bike out of sheer boredom....It feels  almost like you got a new bike!   :thumb:

If you're planning to keep the bike "forever" then go for it. Otherwise, custom paint generally reduces the value of the bike come time to sell or trade it in.

This.

Our local dealer painted one high gloss black, put the yellow ohlins on it, it really kicked and I usually don't like black.  It flew off the showroom floor.

I think I'd like that. A little yellow or red would brighten up  -  Ohlins, plug wires, whatever....
And I'd suggest a deep metallic emerald green, instead of black.

Making a bike your own is part of the relationship. Im personally debating adding a clear coat over the satin red on my 17 Griso. Like the way the bike looks now but think it having a gloss finish would really make it look better and who doesn't like a shiny motorcycle?   That was a rhetorical question, no need to comment.

It's your bike. Your money. Do what you want to and don't pay attention to the negative nabobs that are still living in their parents basement.

stock sucks. paint it.
but if you are painting a bike with zero damage, take a bunch of pics or videos showing the pre-paint condition so that when you go to sell it, people don't try to beat you up about crash damage.

I guess it all depends on what you do. I would tend to say that restraint is important.  My V50 has a "Le mans" paint job and I think it looks way better than original.  (shameless plug- Gina is up for sale)
