My 98EV has had intermittent start problems over the years. I'm sure I've narrowed it down to the wire of the phase sensor on the bell housing. When I get a no start, there is no spark. Move the wire a bit and I get a normal start. One vendor quoted me a price of $150 for a used one. Does anybody know of a OEM source that might be better than that. Also is it possible this sensor and wire is common to other bikes or cars? Has anybody else had this problem?
Thanks, Bill

I ordered one from here and it showed up and worked. All for less than $30 shipped.

I bought one off of Amazon last year. Came from Greece for about $25. The vendor no longer shows. Search the Internet or EBAY for "SEN8E". Make sure the display pictures show the plug end. There are 3-wire and 2-wire versions. You want the 2-wire.

You guys are the best. Just ordered the sensor on Ebay for $22.5 Just hope mine is a two wire. If so problem solved.

98EV is a two wire. That's what I have.

One thing about this sensor, if it quits you are dead in the water, I would certainly carry the spare on the bike.
You need to get the gap correct as well 0.6 - 1.2mm, well nigh impossible to measure, probably ok to just use the same shims.
To check the gap I use a blob of JB-Quick on the tip, install it with the shims. After the epoxy has had time to firm up pull it out and measure the thickness of the JBQ
