Feedback on Moto Guzzi upgraded seats? Happy with them?
I thought the stock V9 Roamer saddle was "ok", but felt like I was kicked by a mule hours after a long day.
So I added an Airhawk, and when properly adjusted works pretty darn good.
Every Harley I ever bought needed it's stock seat replaced; they look good in the showroom, but that is about it.
This looks better and they say it is "soft". A roll of the dice?

You may have to do without your seat a while, but there are a number of saddle builders that make you one to order. I find that shape is important as well as adaptive-yet-supportive foam. I've used Sargent and Corbin and both were comfortable and good looking. Check a few custom order forms from your vendor of choice and you'll find that you can have exactly what you want.

First thing I thought of, and I have local guy who is good; and I found neither Sargent or Corbin makes one for the Roamer. I'll check the custom order forms. Anyone else you can think of? The stock seat pan is a bit small as well; looks a bit odd.
Thanks.

Corbin sent me a photo of their Bobber Gunfighter and Lady seat on a Roamer. Many free of charge custom options including the stitch pattern. But people either love them or hate them. :undecided:

My preference has always been to have a seat custom made for me. I've never had any OEM seat or OEM option seat preform nearly as well, and I'm in that business.
Sargent, for one, will build on your seat pan, as will others.

Contact Enzo at Cadre. he is a Corbin dealer. I just got one for the 1400. Better than the stock seat and the upgraded gel seat I paid good bucks for.

Seats are a very personal experience. For every person who loved a seat, you will find those who hated them.
I found many OEM seats to be great for 20 miles at a time.
I like corbin on cruiser style bikes.
I like seat concepts seats on standard sitting bikes.
I had sargent on my Concours 1400 and my KLX250S and was happy with them.
I have a local guy "Terry's Custom Seats" that has build me some unique seats for bikes when I wanted something that the big names wouldn't touch, like a flat seat for the Versys 650 or the very low solo seat for the Vulcan Mean Streak. He also made me a "tractor" style seat for my Triumph Trophy SE that allowed me to go all day in the saddle.

Agree with KoF... I think you get more for your money going with a custom (or aftermarket replacement) seat.
As an example I bought the MG comfort seat for my Audace, and while it has upgraded padding/internals, it still has the same size/shape/form as the original seat. It is only a real upgrade to those who were comfortable on that original style seat. With a custom seat, you can have the seating position moved forward/back, wider/narrower, etc.
I am not a Corbin fan (too hard for me) but have liked both Mustang and Seth Laam in the past.
Good luck,

Red,
Corbin also offers a solo "Gunfighter" seat for your bike:

I have used a local upholsterer for some 30+ years for seats. I cut/reshape the foam myself to fit me. I have an old electric carving knife and also use a flapper wheel on a right angle grinder.

There is SO much that goes into making a comfortable seat. Hip angle and "butt bones" are two very important variables.
My business is providing weather protection for custom seats-in fact, I have a rider in the IBA Rally as we speak (he took 11th in 2017).
As such, I interact with owners of all the major seat makers and plenty of the smaller guys, too. The most general statement is that, like screens, seats are highly subjective. What I do see is that the big seat makers get it right more often than not. The exception to that is Corbin. Reports are very consistant-it's either love or hate. Almost never a middle ground. I've had several of them and the V7 seat is good, the Norge seat was awful, and the Triumph Tiger 1050 seat was rubbish.
In private conversation every seat maker I've ever talked with downplays gel inserts as gimmicks. Granted, I have not spoken with them all but more than you'd think. That any OEM offering works for a rider is, IMHO, pure luck of the draw. Most of them are made by just a few companies-for example, OEM supply is a big business for SHAD.

I agree with twowheeldaddict. Terry's custom seats is THE guy to deal with.

Always good to know who's good.

I thought that was the one I wanted, but to my eyes the longer one "Gunfighter and Lady" looks better in my eyes. But the front of the saddle looks like a big horseshoe around the tank; probably perfect for V7s that have the notch in the tank.

Thanks for your insight, your experience is invaluable. Moto Guzzi shows their "comfort seat" along with premium bags and windshield; showing it can be a mini tourer maybe. Fits perfectly showing the frame rails and smoothly going into the tank....but we are talking comfort here. Always had great experience with Mustang, they don't make seats for us.

It does look cool and fits the bike perfectly....but it is all a crapshoot.

Plenty of times the only solution is to use an OEM pan and have the top remade to your liking. It can get a bit pricey, but Guzzi is a bit of an outlier to any seat makers.

I bought an airhawk cushion for my v711,night and day in comfort. The stock seat was unbearable after a 50 mile ride!!!

Airhawk did the trick for my V7 too. It's much cheaper than a custom seat, and works great. Plus it's easy on-off, so I can use it only for the long rides. For aggressive sport riding it's better to just have the hard stock seat. For the long tours it's terrific.
