Title: Oil line failure

The cause of my oil leak turned out to be a failed crimp in the Y-shaped hose that goes from the front top center of the engine case to the cylinder heads.  It was a major league leak.

Was this failure a fluke, or is replacement of the hose a regular maintenance item?  I’m wondering if I should replace the one on the SP III just in case.  The LM V is a ‘90; the SP III is a ‘93, so the hoses are about the same age.

It's a pretty common failure, especially if the previous owner has cheaped out. Get the good one.. teflon lined, stainless braided cover. Not cheap.

In this application, it pays to spring for the more expensive,better quality lines. The "cheapies" have been known to spring a leak at the most inopportune times.

I had the same problem on my convert 1976 to a roundhead I, took the rubber hose assembly off and replaced it with a hard-line oil pipe from an ambassador ,Eldorado haven't had a leak in years and it doesn't rot.
If your bike is for a square head it may not apply however you still can replace it with a hard line pipe I've seen people do it and they basically did it with the brass fittings and then bad to Silver solder to Etc

One of the first things I bought for the V7 Sport was the one made like this for round fin motors. One of very few non original looking parts but I had one of the OEM type hoses spring a leak on my first Guzzi (850T) about 30 years ago - never want to clean up that mess again!

Geez, only 27 or 29 years before failure, guzzi cheaped out. :boozing:
You have done well padawan.
Is it a service item? Yes in original form, every 10 years or if it shows signs of weeping, a bit like brake lines.
In teflon braided form, on condition.
Buy 2 teflon braided assys and do both bikes, then relax and ride.
I did my mk 3 lemans with teflon braided back in 1995, no issues as yet.
Dont forget the new copper washers for the banjo bolts.
