This has always been my favorite photograph of youth and motorcycling and friends. My aunt Ruth (on the right, in white) died late Saturday. That's my father on the left, Ruth's husband (who owned that 1944 H-D EL), and Ruth's best friend from Washington Grand Coulee Dam High School on the right. It's likely that my father controlled the shutter on this shot. The war is now over; the future looks good.

from about the same time as the above photo, my father's bike was this slightly older ER:

He's around 16 in the picture--working at the local Standard Oil service-station while in high school--so, I can imagine that used motorcycles were very affordable. It's hard to keep things in context with today, since this bike was a crude axe compared with any of today's motorcycles.
My aunt was in her mid-nineties when she died and had been all over the world multiple times, often travelling with that same friend she's with in the picture.

Daniel, I'm sorry to read about your aunt. Thank you for attaching the photo of your mom, dad, aunt, and her friend.
In sympathy,
Bob

I love these old photo of our parents, kin and friends on these old bikes! Please guys let’s make this thread like the “how was your day” thread. Dig up those old photos and share them!

Tell us about your dad. What did he do? What bikes did he have?
Seeing that pic makes me a little sad - reminds me of that signature line:
It's just a blink from diapers to depends.

Condolences Daniel on the death of your Auntie. Always a tug on the heart when a generation ceases.
Looks like you didn't have a show when it comes to motorcycles. At what stage did your father finally cease riding?
